Is the AntMiner a plug and play unit, or do you need PSUs and fans?

If so, what do you recommend?  I've heard the gentle typhoon fans are pretty good.

There 2 products of AntMiner.

1. AntMiner U1 => USB. U need a PC to perform mining.
2. AntMiner S1 => Yes it's plug and play. Need PSU min. 360W with at lest 02 PCI-E (easiest way) and an extra FAN for cooling.

Yea right on the PSU

Here's my story, (running 9.5 right now)  I've had success with Corsair CX750s no problems, I totally had issues with an off brand Coolmax 750W psu and had similar issues with a 680W PSU - They turnon, pretend to power up, then at the time of mining they shutoff, likely because an overcurrent switch was triggered.  The one unit that is broken is making all my various psu's overcurrent out as seen with a 1000W PSU and a 1500W PSU.  But otherwise, yes, they are fairly plugNplay ready.  Plug it into ethernet, ip 192.168.1.99 or if you have a custom setup, then use a laptop and an ethernet cable and manually change your gateway to match the 192.168.1.1 then, change your username/password, then either choose to add a wireless network and set it to dchp (give it a hostname so its easily identified by your router [total pita if you didnt do this and you need to manage more than 3 of them on a big network], go to cgminer config and set your miner worker credentials...??.??.??...... profit!)

Well, according to TheGenesisBlock's mining calculator, the AntMiner SI and U1 are not profitable anymore.

Why are people still buying them?

 Roll Eyes  That's not what my calculation shows, and that's using the default difficulty increase (which is BS btw).

You used 3 BTC as purchase price, try the current 1.45 BTC and you will see why we are still buying them!

I mostly stay in the altcoin, project development, and economy sections - I'm not a miner, I write for devcoin  Smiley.  (check my posts)

btw - The earth rotates because the planetary nebula which formed our solar system spun.  (That's also why our solar system is a disk, think a pizza maker)
