When merit was introduced, there were some ways to get merits :

1) Talk good about merits.

2) Ridicule those opposing merit system

3) Make a list of merit abusers

4) Start a thread giving away merits

With time members realized that the intention of these in most cases was to get merits only.

People on this forum are way to obsessed about merit if you ask me. Still not sure what merit even is, and at this point I really don't care anymore. Does it get me preferential treatment with the admins?
I don't know what's hard about that. It's like with money, if you got plenty of it, you take it for granted a little bit and start understanding that it doesn't solve all your problems in life (doesn't even solve half of them most of the time), but when you are poor, you always think that when you'll get that "x" amount of money (merit in this case), you'll become a much happier person.

And mostly when you're poor (money, merit, whatever) you just don't do enough in your life to change that.
These are much better suggestions....that no one except higher-ranked members will ever follow.  Noobs who came here to spam for bounties?  Merit and ranking up are all they care about.  #5 here has been stated repeatedly since January, and it's consistently ignored.
I'm still waiting for the day that these shitposters give up and go away.  It's a fantasy, I realize, but I'm trying to remain optimistic.
I guess, I am one of those "shitty posters" you would like to get rid of, and I don't really understand the hate for bounty hunters. How are they harming you? There are a lot of people in need of money and I think it's better that they at least do something to earn some. I am not really experinced in this and don't know how much money can one make with bounties, but what is the harm in trying? Yeah, in ideal world, I would prefer to earn a lot right now, cause I am ambitious person, but I am realist don't really have anything useful to contribute on this forum so far, why can't I start with bounties while learning and one day maybe I'll be good enough to forget about those.

While I think that new rules are very useful for forum, and people with knowledge will still get thir rank up, it's undeniable that a lot of people were just lucky to register here before new system and earn their ranks without real contribution, I believe that's what he is referring to.

Partially true but there are people who are in the forum for years and done a lot for the forum. For them only, we are seeing the forum we have now. How about them? They deserved it. Every system starts from some points and feature like merit was needed to protect the forum. Instead of focusing on negativity OP should focus on the good stuffs happening on the forum since the merit has been introduced.

OP really needs to see there are people who started from 0 (like he has now) and achieved 100s of merits. List of members achieved 0 to 100 and plus merits - hope this will give OP and others some encouragements.

PS: Truth is - people like OP will hardly change unless they change their mindset.

Making it worse for newbies because they only know little stuff and all of their current knowledge come from the forum - how can they start a topic that interests a higher-ranked members (please be reminded that only higher-ranked members can give merit/s)  if what they know are only so-so?.

Most of  the merits comes from merit sources. They are higher ranked members only but I am sure that they keep in mind the current rank of a member before judging his posts or awarding merits to him.

No doubt, that making a unique post now is a difficult task but it is not that hard. What I have seen is that posts with personal experiences related to crypto or this forum always gets merits.

Merit system is blessing only for those who have created accounts on bitcointalk prior to Dec 2017. They were rewarded merits just because they are old on this forum.
New comers joining this forums now are going to have tough time to get merits, in fact really hard.

You will receive merits if you make quality posts that benefit other people in the forum.

particularly to the lower-ranked participants that sincerely preference to rank up not only that you're so blessed to emerge as a complete-member prior the merit gadget subsequently we should make bigger some sympathy to them but the information being shared inside the forum is already large in quantity making it tough to begin a specific and original topic. In my case, I striving to have great posts and removing the burden of wondering the way to earn an advantage. however, I can not completely say that I already acquire that nation of thoughts. If you may inquire from me to state five reasons for posting, then I will say that getting a benefit is one among my pinnacle 5

Guys, guys, guys! Why is it so much whining about merit? What do you need it for so badly? If you came to this forum to get a communication and to learn something new - you can have it with or without merit, no differense about rank. If you came here to make money - then it should be hard for you to get merit. Yes, before this system you could get rank up just for posting and now you can`t. So what? Life changes, people. There is no "free money" in the world. You want that rank up - you try your best to be useful to the community. And stop complaining, for God`s sake. I`m like 2 weeks on the forum and I got sick already. Noboby going to cancel it anyway, and thanks admins for that.

I am also hopeful to this one.  I think the expectations of Merit Sources should vary from one rank to another.  You cannot expect superb post from a newbie compare to a full rank member, hence we must extend more grace to the newbies.

I broke 10 of the 20 merit's commandments.

1. Nobody knows when he will get a merit
2. Never rely on receiving a merit
3. Do not tell anyone about the merit
4. No one owes you merit
5. And merit himself does not
6. Because it simply merit
7. The volume of text does not affect the reception of merit
8. And the pictures also do not affect
9. And even humorous pictures do not affect
10. Merit is received - when they forget about it
11. The more you chase after the merit - the faster it runs away from you
12. To deceive yourself by "hammering a bolt" will not help - it measures the true desire
13. Do not listen to anyone - write what you think
14. It happens that merits do not go by themselves.
15. Merits have allergy to bounty and copy-paste
16. Love for merit is non-reciprocal, it is worth understanding and living with it
17. Merit does not like being asked
18. Merit does not tolerate pity and does not come to tears
19. Merit will not give new knowledge
20. And does not add zeros to the bank account

Only after gaining knowledge - merit will cease to be the main goal.
And when he measures it, he will come himself

(I found these commandments in the Russian topic, but perhaps this is not the original - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818398.msg35267149#msg35267149)

How many commandments have you violated?  Wink

It is very hard to get merit because your posts must have quality, sense and valueable. For you to recieve merit. And also not everyone will see your post. You need more experiences in btc to learn about it.

I don't care about merit now at first hard to accept because I know hard to get it especially if you are not good in English but I already accept it. I think better not to talk about merit.

Actually, it is probably better if you do think about merits right from the start, and not go down the “just keep posting” road without it in mind. Now the idea is not to have merits in your mind like if it were of divine nature. Neither are they something you get in a lottery or raffle that you participate in, with better chances the more you post. Posting one-liner non-contributive posts as if there was no tomorrow will never get you any merit.

I’d rather people did have them in mind, as a feasible (yet scarce) feat, but understanding how your posting habits need to adjust to a better nature and contribution to the forum. It is way better to write less posts with much more thought/research, than being a Forest Gump poster that will eventually either be nuked, or arrive at Forest’s abrupt conclusion: "I’m pretty tired" (of posting jibberish). "Think I’ll go home now" (quit posting and do something else).

When I was younger, I joined a Karate school ( I didn't respect the style and switched to Wing Chun, but that's another story), and one of the first questions that the instructor asked new members was "Why do you want to learn Karate?", and one of the members replied " I want a black belt". His reponse to that was to take off his belt and give it to the new pupil, and he pointed out that he had achieved his ambition, but it was worth nothing. So many new members here have the same attitude. They want merits just to be able to make worthless posts to earn bounty, and they don't consider the far greater rewards that come from learning a skill. Bitcoin Talk provides a wonderful opportunity for new members to expand their knowledge, and to improve their communication skills. This will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives. Merit should be an measure of your personal development, and not a ticket to a few scammy coins that probably won't be worth much anyway.

I totally disagree with this line. I am a bounty hunter myself and to be honest I am satisfied with my rank now. Why? cause i know that i'm still lacking knowledge about the whole cryptocurrency in general. There is a saying that knowledge is power which is true but I also believe that manners and good deeds will earn you respect. Try to observe this forum and you will see a lot of posters who are losing their dignity and manners just to earn those precious MERITS. Knowledge + Respect will surely make you a great person and nobody can take that from you.

NOTE: Not only quality post can earn you merits but also a helpful post.
