That's awesome!  Hopefully this will help some retailers who might be afraid to offer BTC, especially today, where the price of BTC could be constantly fluctuating.
I know in the US more and more retailers are using automated pricing instead of having to manually adjust.

I can tell you if wifi(or you meant internet) is down, it would still suck if you accept CC. Most if not all new terminals use internet connection now.

There's certainly a lot more media coverage recently in the UK and I wonder that might be a good sign of a positive approach from Government.. hope so.

Well I think the best thing would be to just convert your final balance at checkout.
When I'm shopping these days in the US (I'm from Canada), retailers give me the option if I want to be charged in US Dollars, or Canadian Dollars.  Retailers should be able to add other options to say Pay in BTC, and they will have the latest conversion price there.  The consumer should be smart enough that if they have $100 worth of goods that it'll be approx. 0.1BTC or something like that.

With most retailers these days having their own apps...should definitely be feasible!
