Please check their latest blocks. They may still be trying to get it to work, but it will not happen, the coin is the problem, not the pools.

I deleted all file and dirs in the folder c:\users\<me>\appdata\roaming\onioncoin except onioncoin.conf and wallet.dat... the wallet re-synch'd up to block #786/987, but still displays the warning message!
