Hi guys,

Long story short think I have been pretty unlucky. I have no backup of these coins as they had literally just arrived from X site.

Spilt quite a lot of water on the laptop.

Laptop turned off,

I managed to turn laptop back on and home screen appeared but wouldn't let me doing anything

Then turned off again and it won't power up. The light still comes on to suggest the laptop is on but the laptop makes no sound

Am currently in the process of totally drying out the laptop.

Will my coins be retrievable? Any suggestions as to what to do/what not to do
Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

You should have let the laptop dry. You most likely killed it, because you forced it to turn on, twice. This would have caused even more electircal damage.

The only thing you can do to safe your coins is removing the hard drive and plugging it in somewhere else. That way you can access your coins and make a backup.

Yup, as bitcoininformation said, plug in your hard drive elsewhere and do a backup. Try an external hard drive case and plug in on another computer through USB.

A golden rule for rest of your life will be that if in future if this ever happens again  don't turn on the system or any electronic device if its wet.. and don't try to dry it using dryers, Remove the batteries immediately and give it 5-6 hours to dry of ...!
to recover coin i Think if your HDD is in working condition you can get your BTC back.. if the amount of BTC is high and your hard drive is not working properly pls contact any data recovery specialist they can help you..!

absolute worst case all that's needed is to buy a hdd that's the same as the old one and swap the internals over I have had to do that a few times

1 good reason to only use hdd not ssd for important stuff Smiley

I had the problem with getting liquid on a Netbook. Then I contacted Dell in my home country, but since the netbook was bought in the USA, there was no service to get. Finally after getting hold of Dell in the US, and sending a couple of spare keyboards to a US address, everything worked out in the end.

But water and electronics in general does not mix well.

A word for the future could be to always keep backups of important things away from the PC itself.

What wallet are you using?

Most wallets allow you to create a backup BEFORE you receive the bitcoins.  You are saying that you are running a wallet program (Bitcoin-Qt? Electrum? Armory? MultuBit?) on your computer and you have NEVER backed it up since you installed the program?  There is definitely a good lesson to be learned there.
