[SURVEY] Why do people invest in ICOs? What are decision criteria?

the only reason why people ever invest in anything is to make profit. and with ICOs the promise of getting rich is right there so the greed kicks on and they invest in them no matter how many of them fail the first day or scam the first day. and it doesn't matter that all of them are failing in the long run. people only see that short term possibility of profit and are blinded by it.
in my opinion all those questions about the background of the project/team/... are irrelevant. the only thing important is the hype surrounding the token and the market sentiment to see whether it can get pumped big or not at all.

Basically, the coinage called investment connotes to make an increase from original worth or value. So, people invest so that they can have increase.

Therefore, in the case of ico, they invest in such with the expectations of enriching themselves bountifully because it is cheaper to buy an ico coin than to buy a coin that has already started making increase. This is just the positive side of it.

I agree that it's probably mainly financial gains. That's exactly what we try to show (and this would also be an interesting finding). However, there is a bit more to it. I come from an entrepreneurial finance background, so the interesting question is whether and how venture's can use ICOs to get funding. IF investor's only want to get rich, the quality of the actual venture should not matter. IF that is the case (which can very well be true) good ventures should not use ICOs as they will not raise more money than bad ventures.

Also, I think there are different groups of investors. There will be some out there that do it for the tech. Getting a comprehensive sample is the tricky part here...

Actually the main reason why people invest in ICO is simply to make money ,right now ICO  this is the easiest way in earning profit,this is the answer espescially to those investors without huge capital to start investing,the only neeed in this job are your time and efforts though there are some not legit ICO  but still more more ICOs promising which can be profited.

if they want to raise funds then they should  raise funds why would they want to run an ICO which is Initial Coin Offering. why would they want to create a coin or token that does absolutely NOTHING to raise funds?
and that's the problem with ICO market. and that is the problem with this market, in my opinion. it has turned into a tool for literary anyone to make a lot of money out of thin air and do  nothing in return.

Profits. I don't think a lot of those investing in icos are really looking at the end product or the actual use of the ico. People see it as a good way of getting high returns in just a few months. That's also the main reason why many end up being scammed in these ico investments

There are too many projects out there and it gives an opportunity for investors to make fast profit at one project and then move to the other one to get more profit. Dead project will be so common.

People are investing in ico for getting huge profits and so many people already make a good profit with invest in ico. But the current situation of ico is very complicated and it's not give you any promise for profit and their are so many ico when they list in the exchange they list under the ico price. So in this condition present time is very complicated for ico invest.  So i think before investing in ico should be deep research by yourself.

I agree with the general sentiment that the main reason is financial gains. The questionnaire goes a bit deeper, however.
For example: Maybe people that gather information from a lot of different sources tend to put COMPARATIVELY less emphasis on gains (still the most important motive, but maybe less pronounced) when compared to the average investor.

Or: People with a background in finance might be more interested in financial gains in the form of dividends while people without a finance background might be more interesting in selling the tokens faster.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your feedback and for paticipating in the survey. This is a huge research opporunity.

I don't think investing in icos is the same thing of investing into altcoins when there are listed in exchange.  However people buy coins during icos because of the bonuses the project provide and some people have ideas of getting the coins cheap and sell them high when there are listed.

To be frank ICO is made as part of fund raiser and traditional is when people invest into them then it means only one thing, becoming share holder for it and earn money back from it. As supporter they will want same thing and nothing else.

For me people invest on ICO's because they want a Easy Money , because the value on ICO's is cheap and after the ICO's and if the coins on Market and for example the COIN was x3 price on ICO's price they profit will be x3 . I think ICO's is the best money multiplier. But ICO's is dangerous too because most of ICO's is SCAM it's better to search the Project before you buy on ICO's that's my insight about ICO's

If you are an investor of any type of Cryptocurrency, ICO's are a way in which you can either store, save, loan or invest your Cryptocurrencies. Most safe ICO's have a decentralized network in which more than one network is used to make sure it's impossible to hack. Blockchains are also used. you should look at ones like Bancor, Shivom and BAANX these are reliable sources!

Those who invested in ICO, regardless of size, would know - cryptocurrency is out of competition, and soon it will be more desirable, as this promising young and promising project will soon provide real evidence.

Lets assume everyone only does it for the money, we could still differentiate investors according to their decision making. Some inform themselves about projects and invest for money. Others inform themselves about bonusses and potential revenues (not about the ICO's technology) and invest for money. Others don't inform themselves at all and only follow hype.
Tha would also be a pretty interesting finding.

We also have an item in there of whether people invest in ICOs when the price of BTC/Ether is high OR low. This is actually an interesting question as either answer would suggest that ICOs should occur depending on the price of BTC/ETH.

People like to re-invest "free-money" they won on the market.
Kind of diversification.

You need to have a solid project so that an investor will liquidate BTC/ETH to get altcoin!

I personnaly look at the project idea " would I use the product", the Hype and the team qualification.

If you buy let's say 50$ of 10 ICO for 500$, one of them will give yo more back then all 10. Popcorn.
Make your snowball with the pop-corn theory!!

So whoever follows ICo is they want to invest.

The investment goal is to double the profit, whether it's money or something that is valuable for those who own it and receive it in the community.

The reality is that people invest because they will have some bonus and this in itself is already very good for the investor and then that investor do not bother to investigate if the project is useful for society; if the project will solve some problem in society; if the project will have demand, if the project team really exists and can deliver what they promise. People do not investigate this, they just pray for the project to be a success, but why? because people had bonuses and because people participated in the bounty campaign. those are cases where you make a pact with the devil and the devil says to you: if I die? You too will die, because we share the same life.
