Hello everyone!

Hope you're all well and surviving the dreaded bear market!  Shocked

Just thought i'd share my experiences of the first few weeks i've had here. I joined here for the first time ever in mid-May, i didnt start posting until approximately 2-3 weeks ago though and mainly browsed topics and threads when i wasn't logged in. I wanted to find out what it was like here first, what i could bring here (if anything!), to study what people were doing right and avoid making mistakes a lot of people do when they join here.

If you're new here i seriously recommend doing the same.

For the most part i've thoroughly enjoyed it here, i've picked up some tremendous tips which i knew little about before being here including:

  • Understanding mining. Always had an interest in it, but never really knew a too much about it. This place has a wealth of info on mining and i'm glad i have found it.
  • Astounding amount of knowledge and insight into most of the niche areas i'm involved with or interested in.
  • Opportunities and rewards that i genuinely never even knew about before being here.
  • Tips to grow or start your crypto related social media channels.
  • Pointers to other great content across the web- rather than the same boring FUD filled channels you see on google all the time.
  • Wise words from the senior members of the website who've been in crypto through every bear and bull market who can put our minds to ease when it looks like things are going 'tits up'!
  • How to say "Great project" repeatedly.....well maybe not that one!  Grin

Seriously though, I could go on and on. I'm absolutely over the moon i have found this place as i don't know ANYONE in real life who is into crypto. So finding likeminded people with the same passion and interest that i have is an awesome feeling.

I'm thrilled to have ranked up to Junior member today, very grateful for the Merits iv'e received as it shows people are looking at what we all post, and  that i am genuine and wanting to contribute here- as and when i can.

What i'm also trying to say is- all the info you need is here! You just have to seek it out and find it. I've learned a lot in a short space of time and i'm grateful to each and every persons post that has helped me.

If you're new here, don't ask silly questions that will immediately put you in the bad books and on people's ignore list! Learn, contribute and stay positive!  Grin

Hello
I've been meaning to ask somebody about mining and I tried google search but couldn't understand anything. I want to mine coins but I don't know a single thing about mining. Can you please enlighten me on this topic? What kind of hardware is needed that could be used to mine almost all the coins or do we need different hardware/software for different types of coins? What is the procedure for doing so. This question might seem stupid but I would really appreciate if you would reply positively to this. Thanks.

You can use this section https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0
It's all about altcoin mining where you can ask or make a thread how to build your own miner and help you for better understanding about mining.
For bitcoin mining this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=14.0 section is a good place where you can ask about bitcoin mining hardware or software.

And also check this https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining you can read all different hardware mining from CPU,GPU,ASIC mining and other mining hardwares.

Congrats, mate! Nice to read another motivating post of you! It’s always a good decision to read a lot especially in the Meta or the Beginners & Help subforum, which is one of the rare places here where your posts aren’t covered immediately by one-line posts. In these subforum you’ll get an impression of useful things about crypto in general and you get to know how this forum works. If you know these basics, your posts will be improved very much – I am convinced!

And maybe the most important thing is to stay positive! We are here to help each other, even if there are sometimes issues you don’t think it’s possible to solve them. Your posts (I read lots of them) are written in a very motivated way and this is worth very much contributing to the good atmosphere in this forum!

Keep up the good work!  Wink

Im absolutely convinced on what you said mining is not realy an easy task and very expensive investment. You should be wise in holding your mined assets since crypto is unstable in terms of its value.

I think the secret to your success is your cautious entry after 2 to 3 weeks of casual browsing and reading the forum. A lot of newbies stumble onto this site, because people might have told them that this site is a gold mine of opportunities to get rich quickly and then they start spamming the forum to rank up, to enable them to get to that money.

If you only joined this forum for the money, then you would probably fail very early on in your journey. The big reward is actually the wealth of information on Crypto currencies that are centralized in one place. The monetary reward is a added bonus for the time and effort that you spend to improve this platform for other people.  Wink

Like every other thing in life, solid things take a while to be formed. Anything that is rushed usually never really stand the test of time. There's a lot of gain to be made from being genuinely interested in learning and contributing to a cause as opposed to coming in only for what you stand to gain.

I believe you have a good attitude towards the forum, and are starting to build character here, as can be seen by your post history.
As you can see, I mentioned Post History, and that is something all forum users should be aware off and wary about. Very often, meriters value not only the content of the post being merited, but the user’s posting track. This takes us extra time, but is a known habit here for many reasons.

Of course while checking your history, I’ve also seen that I merited you last week too on another post. This caused me to reflect whether an additional merit would be convenient now, knowing full well that your post deserves a merit in my opinion. I have gone ahead as should be.
Unfortunately, one does try to even out the sMerits one sends and not to concentrate them too much or in a very short period of time. This second factor, while not being a wrong doing at all, is often in the minds of merit awarders due to false positive accusations of abusing merit. This is a delicate matter whichever way you look at it, but kind of gets in the way of a clear objective (or should I say subjective rather) mind when it comes to meriting posts from good posters. There are threads where I would nearly merit all the posts within, since all have invested time and thought into the discussion, but the mental brake is drawn and stops the process in its tracks. This I know happens to quite a few of us around here.

To summarize it all: good mindset, good posting history. Merits should come your way with the two factors, at once pace or another. Well done so far.

At first I thought this is one of those "How to Get Merit" tutorials or "My Success on Getting Merits" thread most commonly created by low ranking members, but then I gave it a try and read what you will say in the forum and I truly am shocked on your suggestions and tips to your fellow members in the forum. Keep up the good work, reading is one of the biggest key here in order for you to have more knowledge about cryptocurrencies in general. And you don't need to go on as I think your fellow low ranking members have got your point.

I feel the need of seconding what DdmrDdmr has pointed in his quote. Sometimes I feel a post deserves much more than just one merit, but due to the incoming "inquisition" having a place in some boards of the forum, I stop and just give one.
Also, the posting history is a really important issue when regarding a user. As I told you the first time I merited you, I always check the post history of a user before meriting, for, to me, the one thing that must be rewarded is the attitude towards the forum.
Having a good attitude, being humble, sharing the knowledge, the insights one have, must be the correct approach and deserves many merits. Besides, seniors members need to take care of the good-newbies, for they are few, and also because this is a much better approach to make the forum a better place rather than making accusations to bad ones. I've seen recently the meta board full of people accusing one to another. I get the point, the forum is in a bad shape, but I think that if we better dedicate our time to support good newbies, this is a much healthy way to improve the forum.

Very well said guys. Bravo! I'm not here on a merit hunt, without sounding cocky or arrogant, from what i've seen on here so far, i know its possible to be rewarded for posting on here so that's all that matters to me.  Smiley

I'm trying to do my bit by posting things to stop other people posting the same questions or making trouble for themselves when they first join up. I feel for you guys in a way as it seems you have to explain or be judged on why you've merited- that shouldn't be the case. It should be evident in the post that you've awarded it too.

I have said this before, i'm a positive person and i truly believe that you get what you deserve. Good feedback and a positive response to my posts is always great to see. If i can help just ONE person and change their mindset to alter their posting habits then i've made a contribution here. I'd take that over Merit any day of the week!  Grin

Merit fapping is the sexual stimulation of one's own topic for own pleasure, usually to the point of kreygasm. The stimulation may involve patting own back, praise her/himself, looking down other peers, related to the merit achievement. There is no need to do this and this behavior is frowned upon by the community. Keep making quality, constructive posts and you will surely be rewarded over time.

You are a good writer. Many of us cannot do this. There may be some people who have a lot of experience in trading or mining, but it is very difficult for them to summarize and write out their experiences.

Thanks.
This is why newbies should search for information in bitcointalk if you want to know what you are looking for. What's the purpose of a thread with useful/helpful information if you just take it for granted. Since you got a help on where you can get information about mining you should click the link provided by BitMaxz to start right away.

Please I am new, could you please explain this merit fapping thing... ?

Merit fapping is the sexual stimulation of one's own topic for own pleasure, usually to the point of kreygasm. The stimulation may involve patting own back, praise her/himself, looking down other peers, related to the merit achievement. There is no need to do this and this behavior is frowned upon by the community. Keep making quality, constructive posts and you will surely be rewarded over time.

You think i'm "Merit fapping" Mu_enrico? Is that what you're saying here?  Huh
