Sometimes, out of curiosity, I’ve seen how much people ask for bitcointalk accounts. In the last case, it seems Gleb Gamow was asking $600 for his Legenday account. In the past, I’ve seen similar prices, but isn’t that a bit low? A Legendary member can make that in a month or two through signature campaigns.

Why is that? In some cases, sellers might be scammers who sell the account and try to get it back just after through a signed message. Or maybe it has to do with the possibility of the account being red tagged. What do you think?

Account sales are now being monitored and red tagged. Purchased accounts are really a waste of money at the moment, and that is probably reflected in the price.

Probably just too risky, Everyone is getting painted red now which basically makes the account worthless since the good campaigns don't allow negative trusters.

Then theres always the chance they can lock or recover the account.

Be aware that many users are protected by means of a signed message. You pay and then the user asks the admin for a password reset alleging that it has been stolen.

In my opinion accounts should have no value at all. The previous owner was the person that contributed to the value that the account added to the forum. I have seen too many bought accounts that had a excellent post history, prior to the sale.

After it is bought, everything change and the posts quality dropped significantly. The tagging is a good idea, but it should be more visible. <Prominently displayed, like a Signature or Avatar as a separate entry or parameter in the user posts >

Let's be honest, a lot of the bought accounts are being bought to give credibility and reputation, to people who want to cheat the system or other people.

If we want to reduce scamming and crime in our Bitcoin community, we should be more serious about "cleaning" up  on our own doorstep, <Our beloved forum> by stopping user account sales.  Sad

Just remove the merit - that would sort out the account selling. Smiley

Any price above $0 is too expensive. I've been on dozens of mailing lists and forums and other online "communities" over the years and not one of them had a concept of account trading, with rare exceptions when there was something of value attached to the account (e.g. Steam games). Well, that "something" on Bitcointalk happens to be (1) spam, or (2) scam, both shitty methods of valuation, both creating massive problems for the community, and both unsurprisingly having huge hordes of fans.

Ok, maybe that's a bit unfair. A price just bellow the cost of Copper Membership could be a fair price for an account. Anything above that is too expensive.

Disclaimer: I pickled the Gleb account to prevent (1) and (2).

We must not forget that many of the accounts for sale are hacked ones. If you make a search in Telegram, you will discover a Russian channel called "BitcoinTalk Accounts". In there, they offer merits at the price of $5, even newbies account for $5 and Member accounts in $175.
There are several groups like this one, and if you dig enough, you will find hacked accounts in there.

So, yes, this is truly important to give red trust for the sold ones, most of them can be hacked one and others just ask for the money and they never give the account to the buyer...
When something has a value, it is going to appear in a black market.

People selling accounts should be permabanned from the forum. There is literally no reason to buy an account that isnt scummy in some way. This place has enough sig spammers and garbage ass people providing nothing useful to the forum. I cant for the life of me figure out why this is allowed.

It would be impossible to enforce.
