Promoting Gridcoin - Mining for Scientific Progress
(In case you haven't read about it yet, feel lucky to meet the next big thing)

Quote
LATEST News from the community:
We are ready to launch Gridcoin-Research in Oktober!
The main discussion board is located at CCT. Therefore, there was little to be heard on BCT.
Development efforts were coordinated at https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/

What is the new client about:

Gridcoin benefits society and medical research by redirecting the massive computational force of the global hashing network to scientific programs like cancer research, Alzheimer's, AIDS and Malaria countermeasures. Desktop computers help in distributed tasks that progress science at Universities (e.g. protein folding). No special mining equipment is needed, computing tasks are too general for ASICs, so the currency stays decentralized!
By introducing Proof-of-Research, we are able to direct nearly all of the available processing power to advance science. Only a small overhead is necessary to secure network logistics. Which is by design the smallest footprint possible, as our network security model is improving on industry leading Proof-of-Stake implementations already being energy efficient. Proof-of-Research factors in mandatory BOINC participation for all clients in a cryptographically strong way. All of this is open source, go look into it!

Let's collect the growing efforts to promote Gridcoin and add to it.
This is a structured approach to let everyone see where his help is currently needed the most.
Maybe you offer a service on your own? - Please feel encouraged to mention it below.
Each promotion or point of acceptance would love to have a maintainer and progress-information.

I will update the OP with all ideas to finally get GRC connect all those ppl's heads!

For POR you need coins in your account that are "staked". This is not like POW where you find blocks with actual hashing!! You either need to convert old GRC classic to new POR GRC or you have to wait till the around the 20th of October when the POR GRC starts trading on the exchanges and get some POR GRC  so you can start staking in your wallet!! IF you have no coins right now in your POR wallet you will not receive anything!! You need to have coins in your POR wallet!!

This wasn't clear to me as well. The wallet says "boinc mining" and it's not true.
Also it's a pity I have compiled, installed, worked on it and boinc-end and I'll not get anything for days, cause I need to have stake power for a coin which currently I can't buy.
Not everybody's been following the coin for months.
I've gotten in a couple weeks ago and read a lot of docs, but I didn't notice that for POR I need POS, and it seems I'm not the only one.
To be an early adopter is never easy Smiley

Before we start on any of that we have to wait for the voting of the new Logo and then we can go from there. Cryptsy and Crypto-Trade have been sent many messages and they are fully aware of Gridcoin. They will list it when they decide to, so there is nothing to be done there!

at least I could help promote the logo competition with my link.
my point is more like every additional thread on GRC helps the cause.
Maybe not everyone has the time to stay up to date with the ongoing campaigns, so I decided to keep track and list them.

Looks like a good start.  I agree with Traderman that most of this needs to wait until we get the logo (which is soon!).  But we do not have to wait to get the list going!
Maybe add a section on things that can be done (services you can buy) with your gridcoins.  A section on any Gridcoin promotions (links to threads of giveaways etc).  A section on advertising.  I am saving up  "Daily Bitcoins advertising credits" from here so that I can run some ads when we are ready.  You should also cross post this to https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/ so that it hits the crypto folks as well.

All promotion is good.  Maybe you (and other Gridcoiners) can add;

"Add some science to your mining!  GRIDCOIN"

to your profile here so that every post you make is a small advert for Gridcoin

certainly, thanks for your appreciation!
as the list gets longer we will introduce categories for sure.
In fact, I would ask each keen participant to open up a new thread with their promotional idea to have it worked out there. To keep this readable we can simply maintain a list of efforts and link to their threads and maintainers.
cross-linkage to cryptocointalk will be done after some consolidation.

Yep - put me down in the "ad" department.  Not sure how much I can do - and I will need help coming up with a great ad to place.  I figured I would start a topic in the threads after we get the logo/coin design.
Also - very first line in this OP should be the link to the coin home page (http://www.gridcoin.us/) so that anyone seeing this and curious will know right away where to go. Wink

Also, to everyone asking where to advertise that you accept GRC for goods and/or services, you will want to post that on the "Marketplace" board under the "goods" or "services" sub-boards.

If you accept GRC for goods: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=51.0
If you accept GRC for services: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0
This! and if you would like your offer to be referenced for the community to see, link here.

Just writing down my thought's, maybe it's helpfull in finding a strategy how to go further,

- It would be very good to speed up the development, considered actions to be taken can be,

 1) Get a moderator for the forums, main responsabilities are,
       - Filtering messages and report important issues to the dev and report back.
       - Give a reply to the questions that the community could not answer
       - etc.

Main goal is to get the dev. focused on the project, he should not get any negative energy from the forum, my advice to him would be do not spent any time on the forum, just rely on the moderators.

 2) Get some crowdfunding to help the dev. to pay for the expenses he has to make,

     - Use the Beacon GRC adress for spendings in Gridcoin, use it later to fund some kind of Gridcoin foundation
     - Ask for money on the landingpage off www.gridcoin.us to support the development, BTC, GRC, etc.
     - Let's raise a small amount of money to design a nice landingpage (www.99designs.de), we need a volunteer who has experience in branding a product, he can address all the needed marketing (the dev. should have his focus on the program).

3) Assign a team for this project, each member should have his focus on certain parts, the dev. can not do everything on his own.

hey groten, thanks for the bunch of inspiration!
To wrap it up, your suggestions as I understood lead us to the following projects:

1) Write reports on community activity regularly for the dev
<< devs could then decide whether this aggregation suffices their needs. can be started right away.

2a) Fund and Constitute a Gridcoin foundation
<< long-term goal, but really this is where we should be heading, even doge has a foundation

2b) work out a brand
<< this ought to follow the logo specification and is a mid-term goal, imho

3) assign a team
<< the community wont take the lead here, Rob has a small team already, afaik.
some community members like aysyr work closely with them.
Therefore, i'd suggest we bring up a pool of help offers from members, which dev board can assign subtasks to.

your ideas would definitely boost this network!
are you fine with the projects i concluded?
I'd like to enlist them alongside your nickname, if you agree.
Otherwise they get lost in the stream.

Thanks for the help!

I agree with the projects you listed. My main concern is that Gridcoin needs a visible team and some kind of Gridcoin foundation. It should be targeted as a bussiness with some very clear strategies and goals, therefore it needs a structured team with members who have all a clear target, responsability and focus, and preferably also the resources (that why I would be happy to fund this project).

That will help in maintaining and assigning the project tasks. Preferably Gridcoin should have their own forum on www.gridcoin.us, with subsections (structure) for all the things that need to be done/addressed, this makes it more visable and easier for the community to help on his or her own specialisation.

I agree that Rob probably already has a team and that he has the lead, I would like to see them taking soon some next steps and spread the giant workload. This is a fantastic project and can be very succesfull if you have a great team around you with brilliant guys or girls. And I speak for myself that I know how difficult it is to delegate and share, smart guys have the attitude to do everything by their own cos no one can do better (no offense to Rob btw).

No problem, thanks for the OP edit. I'm pretty tied up with my day job and other projects right now. I would love to more to help Gridcoin along besides post links for exchange support and what not, that's about all I have time for at the moment tho. Hopefully my schedule will open up enough sooner or later and I'll be able to do more for the GRC community!

Also I asked if he could include the calculation function and sent him a link to the Ccex API.

Will keep you posted.
