I'm trying to mine some litecoin using cgminer and a Radeon HD 4800 card; however, cgminer can't recognize my card.  When I run cgminer -n I get this:

Not sure what I need to do now.  Any help would be GREAT!  Sorry for the rookie question.  Can the card be used to mine? Thanks.

I'm guessing you're using latest version of cgminer? If so, than download version 3.7.2 or older.

New versions don't support gpu mining...

Okai than, have you got the latest drivers for your card as well as SDK v2.9?

TBH, with that card, I don't think you'll see 3 digits KH/s... not sure if it's even worth trying.

The 4800 isn't even in the https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison list, which is a bad sign. It may not be supported.

The computer with the two HD 4800 cards is just sitting around, and I was thinking I might just set it up as a second worker.  Of course, nothing is ever easy.  Ill tinker with the driver suggestion, and see if that works.

Starscream, thanks for the guidance.  I updated the drivers as you suggested, and ended up getting about 160+ Kh/s (thats better than nothing):

The extra worker put my total hashes over 1 Gh/s. Thanks again.  I learned a lot, and hopefully I can use the info, going forward.

cgminer version 3.7.2 is still the best.

As he was suggesting, you didn't exceed 100 kh/s per card, you're getting 82.

But your work utility is under 30 on each card, which is the real work actually being accomplished, and your hardware errors are quite high when they should be 0. So something is very misconfigured.

Your temps of 92+C are also frightening.

You should definitely tweak your configuration.
Your cards are running hot and your WU is considerably lower than your KH/s (should be ~90% of your KH/s).

Yes, the case was right next to a heat vent?!?  I've moved it now. But, I don't know anything about how to tweak the configuration. Is there anywhere I can go to find out more?  Any help would be great. Thanks!

Check here: https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison/raw_data

See what mimicking some of those configs gives you (obviously use those that fit your card, which you never told us btw, only that it's from the 4800 series).

https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison/raw_data is where I found the orginal config info that allowed me to get 160Gh/s.  Similar lines bump the speed to over 200 Gh/s total for the two cards, but im not sure what any of the settings actually do (what they mean).  For example, which settings should I change to affect the WU vs. Gh/s ratio?!? Where can I learn about the specifics of each setting?

It's hard to say unless you post your settings. Set gpu threads to 1 if it's set any higher.

That's exactly what tweaking is all about. Just play around with your settings and try and find the sweet spot between KH and WU.
