I wanted to build a mining rig with a Sapphire R9 270X GPU. I already have a motherboard, which has 3 free PCI slots, 2 2.0 slots and 1 PCI Express slot.

I would like to ask, are they compatible? Or do I have to buy a new motherboard? If yes, then which is the cheapest with like 3 PCI slots that are compatible?

It will work in a PCI Express 16x slot, or it would work in a PCI Express 1x slot with an adapter. It will not however work in a regular PCI non express slot.

If you are asking about how many GPU's it can handle, it depends on the motherboard itself. Windows can support a max of 4 GPU's before running into issues.
