these are new words belonging to new technologies. inclusion in a dictionary is not going to happen fast. and these words are the only new words out there. there are a lot of new words (not related to crypto at all) and are not in a dictionary.
and its inclusion in a dictionary is not going to change anything about their acceptance either.

if someone opens up Websters dictionary and sees the word bitcoin there, they won't suddenly decide they want to use bitcoin. also if they open it and see bitcoin is not there they won't suddenly decide not to use bitcoin!

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

dont worry, those that write the dictionaries regular scan the public, and specialised languages, and update their dictionaries.

Of course you can't find them on dictionary because its just a recent development in the field of technology (2009). But I mean, it wouldn't make any difference if its going to be added in the dictionary. We all have our own lingo here so to speak. Besides, everyone knows how to used the big G, and it would just be in their fingertips if they really wanted to understand all those crypto terms. If any dictionary added it, good, otherwise, it wouldn't affect the popularity of bitcoin by a bit.

The latest technological invention can not be found in the dictionary at the moment as well.  "Blockchain" "cryptocurrency" and "altcoin" are all new words that just came due to the discovery of Blockchain technology. Soon  they will make their way into the dictionary.

it is not that new as you are telling it already exist since 2009. what we need to know is how do the coining of word happen? who chooses what words to add. this thread gives us an idea that the process of coining a word is not easy gives me a thought on how blockchain will help the language industry.

I don't see this bring much help in terms of acceptance to crypto in general, it's just making a word official and won't really do much else, it'll still only be used by those who are in the crypto world anyways

It is not in the dictionary. Because it's not really popular all over the world. Everyone's awareness is still very faint. In other words, it is still a special and unrecognized word.

Well, not having this words on the dictionary is not hampering its popularity in this era of internet. If anyone need to know about these they will find it out on the internet. Including these in the dictionary won't help much too with its popularity because we don't read dictionary like books we just search out the word we need to know.

These are Terminologies that just came to the surface of recent. Been listed in the dictionary isn't a big issue anyways. But the key thing is that has anyone tried submitting it to the world dictionary for aplroval and it was rejected?

Sure we can not find it in the dictionary because it's just the latest development in technology but I mean, it will not make any difference if it gets added in the dictionary. We all have our own terms here so to speak. In addition, everyone knows how to use big, and it will only be at their fingertips if they really want to understand all the crypto terms. If there is a dictionary that adds it, great, otherwise it will not affect the bitcoin bit popularity. It may help you to understand some Cryptocurrency words / phrases.

I do agree with you and at the beginning of my journey with crypto, I thought so and found that these terms are so new to be added in the dictionary. But they are getting popular in recent time. And I hope these terms will be added in the dictionary within a short time.

It doesn't matter whether or not these terms are defined within the dictionary, some of the most common words in current everyday language are not in the dictionary, or have only recently been added, including several acronyms. Fewer people are starting to consider the dictionary definition of words, or even word lists to be accurate anymore, as people no longer unanimously agree the meaning of dozens of words.

Yes, in the dictionary, people will find it easier to understand the definition of bitcoin or cryptocurrency, and people will also believe in cryptocurrency.

But I don't think that people are using dictionary nowadays. They can simple used Google to search for any terms. So for me its doesn't makes any difference if the following terms OP describe should be included.

Edit: I try to search for term blockchain in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary:

Quote
Definition of blockchain

: a digital database containing information (such as records of financial transactions) that can be simultaneously used and shared within a large decentralized, publicly accessible network; also : the technology used to create such a database
The technology at the heart of bitcoin and other virtual currencies, blockchain is an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way. —Marco Iansiti and Karim R. Lakhani

You need to know that it doesn't matter if the words from crypto world are not in dictionary language.
We are in a modern world and there's a lot of words that are not in dictionary but they understand on what it is.

It takes time to officially put these terms on the English dictionary. If you search on the web there are lot of search related topics such as these words on the search tool bar and i think dictionaries will take time to gather more relevant information and defition of these terms to put it or write the perfect defition or meaning of this terms to consider it as an english word or term.

Like a new thing that should be introduced in a special room to be more clear. This is a new term for the digital world, not belonging to anyone with any country of origin, it belongs to all of us and we will have it

Will a lot of new terms nowadays because humans keep trying to find new things.

I guess there's no wrong to include cryptocurrency or blockchain to the dictionary.

In order to make cryptocurrency a popular dictionary only contributes slight effect, not everyone needs a dictionary in their daily life. Social media, such as television or radio and advertisements in many corners of the city will make cryptocurrency very popular.

Crypto to be in English dictionary is good but I do not think it has any effect on the wide adoption. The cryptocurrency is already popular and trending in the global financial circle. The only issue  that is going against the crypto is the government regulations.

i have observed that terms like "cryptocurrency", "blockchain", and "alts" is not an english word because it is not included in the english dictionary though it is cliche in our cryptoworld, i think it is high time to include it in the dictionary for further acceptance of the public and increase its popularity do you agree?

I agree.  As time goes on and cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology is accepted more and more I think you will see these words added to the dictionary.  It's very important for the people to understand the lingo before they get involved.

Yes, I definitely agree with the subject author as to those words in the crypto community was not yet listed in the english dictionary. It's high time for these words (blockchain, alts, cryptocurrency) to be a part of the English dictionary such that the public may know the meaning of these words. It will be helpful to the public to get to know the meaning of these words so that they can understand when they started to join in a forum such as bitcointalk.org.

Yes, this is very necessary. Just like a lot of words that have been used in Internet decades ago, it is also gradually accepted and familiar by everyone.

I don't think it's necessary for crypto vocabulary into dictionary, I think it won't have any effect on the popularity, most of the time people now will google the word to find out the definition and when you google the crypto vocabulary you will see how people explain it, usually by the time when a lot of people using the word and it had become a common word then it can automatically include in the dictionary

a good idea, but will the idea be supported by the language institution and all part who have the decision to include the term into the dictionary?

I think if they respond well, then bitcoin will be easily recognized by the public.

As we all know that earlier people use to invest into gold and then stock market and comes the most accepted one form of investment and that is investing their money in bank but now the crypto currency trading comes to be the most important investment and now consider to be the most important and profitable form of investment and there are many ways by which one can invest into crypto currency and joining the survey campaign is the best way of earning through crypto currencies.

I think it will take a long time to get into the dictionary, but the time it takes for it to be accepted and widespread is very fast. Now the term cryptocurrency, blockchain is extremely popular

The term cryptocurrency is not in the star dictionary !!!
Maybe they are new to the field, so there is no official definition of it.
I think in the future there should be people who synthesize their meaning and give a complete concept for them.

Yes, I agree. It's like there were lots of new Internet words in 2000, and now there are lots of new words in the general English dictionary. This will be a new product of the development of the encryption industry.
