Now that nearly every company is considering how artificial intelligence (AI) applications can positively impact their businesses, they are on the hunt for professionals to help them make their vision a reality. According to research done by Glassdoor, data scientists have the No. 1 job in the United States. The survey looked at salary, job satisfaction and the number of job openings. If you have recent experience looking for AI specialists to join your team, it’s quite clear that we’re facing an AI skills crisis. In order to move AI projects from ideation into implementation, companies will need to determine how to close the AI skills gap so they have experts on their team to get the job done.

Factors that contribute to the AI talent shortage

One report suggested there about 300,000 AI professionals worldwide, but millions of roles available. While these are speculative figures, the competitive salaries and benefits packages and the aggressive recruiting tactics rolled out by firms to recruit AI talent would suggest the supply of AI talent is nowhere near matching up to the demand.

As the democratization of AI and deep learning applications expands—possible not just for tech giants but now viable for small- and medium-sized businesses—the demand for AI professionals to do the work has ballooned as well. The C-suite and corporate management’s excitement for AI’s various applications is building and then once they have bought into the concept (which is happening much more rapidly), they want to make it real right away.

The US companies are raising a fund of over $1 billion for the recruitment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) scientists by 2020. These major job positions will have an average annual salary of $314,000, due to the shortage of global talent.

The question is Why AI skills are sought after, What causes the gap between supply and demand?

This topic is of interest to many countries of the world. But the US certainly wants to be ahead of the planet in this matter. As an owner of a small business, it would be interesting for me to replace people in many processes with machines or, more so, artificial intelligence, which has great advantages. He can not come to work with a bad taste, he has a great reaction to changing conditions, he does not rude to the boss. But, in my opinion, more important is another. For artificial intelligence you do not need to pay social taxes, which can reach up to 80% in hidden form from the employee's salary. And in large corporations, these are billions of dollars in savings. Is it bad or good? We still have to figure this out ...

I was just thinking about AI, because I uploaded a picture that uses "AI" to clean up and improve a low resolution. And I was thinking that the term AI is being used for everything. There's no artificial intelligence going on, rather a program is running, just like they've been running for over 60 years and performing calculations.

Artificial General Intelligence has been an are scientists and governments have been devoting a lot of time and money trying to figure out a way. Scientists believe it can change the future of humanity in that AGI in a way will make devices more intelligent just like or beyond humans and can therefore act proactively. With respect to why there is a low supply of AI professionals I can't say much but for the demand, I know a lot of research are going on about AGI and hence it is no surprise that the demand for AI professionals is on the increase

I think one reason for the gap between supply and demand in AI data scientists is to do with change in mentality. This is to say that decades ago no one had really thought about AI running the world because the technology expansion that we see today simply wasn't there. But now we getting closer to having the right tools so we start to think that its possible to create AI that can take over laborious tasks. Since this is a relatively new move in the demand market the supply is low as it also takes time to get the experienced scientist every one is after.
