I've spent some time on the dating sites and I gotta say... There's some weird/funny experiences to be had (great for stories) but there's some genuinely cool people on there.

Most people have at least one thing wrong about them, though

Well nobodies perfect. I think dating sites are a last resort for most people, so you'll probably get some pretty desperate / lonely socially awkward types on there.
