The change is done by a community vote and after that it is changed on Coinmarketcap.

It's already over a week with the new symbol.
It was used to distinguish between Ripple, the company and XRP, the Ripple currency by the company.
The former still has the same logo while the later is changed to a symbol looking like X to represent XRP.

The change in logo of ripple is irrelevant to its characteristic. The change can be done due to a decision by the team to make it come off look better. The coin itself is new but is promising because the project is unique with a good team and good advertisement.

Why do people keep confusing XRP and ripple? It is XRP that has changed/got a new logo not RIPPLE.  Ripple is just a network of crypto currency and that network has its own premined coin called XRP.
Its been almost more than a week since they changed their logo. You have been asleep for a while.. Time to wake up.

in business world when your company or more specifically your product has failed, in order to get back in the competition and get back in the market and become relevant again you have to do things like this to fool the public opinion even for a short time.
in this case it was changing of the LOGO to change the looks of an otherwise broken and useless token to become relevant again. they have failed though, their token is still the same centralized useless thing that nobody will ever use for anything else than pump and dumps.

It is called Rebrending in my country, when you just want to change those symbols of yours, how does people recognize your company by them.

I noticed that too, it took me a while to come to realize it was actually ripple for real, but it is normal for companies to rebrand from time to time this is to help them to align better with their vision and mission.

different people change different things just to suit their operations and also to give it a brand or maybe a color that speaks silently of what they are into. i believe one of the mentioned factors was responsible for the reason why they changed their symbol. thanks
