Hi,

First I don't want anyone to take offense on my question. For me it's purely for knowing more n more about this forum.

I have gone through numerous post on Bitcointalk in my pursuit of getting to know more n more stuff and familiarising my self with the forum itself . During this what I noticed was there are a huge number of Jr members with high activity and zero merits .

Checked the activity history for a few and all they do are bounties. What I was thinking was, can this permanently be the case or is there any restrictions in terms of activity or time period one can continue to be in a Jr member who has Zero merit?

My observation really made me realize, whoever who bought up this merit system is praiseworthy. I mean seriously or imagine with the amount of bounties that are coming up it would have been a forum with so much of shit posters.

I personally feel a restriction in terms of no of posts or time frame for a person to be a Jr member can further help this forum? I may be wrong so hope to hear opinions/suggestions with this regard!

The required scores are:

RankRequired activityRequired merit
Brand new00
Newbie10
Jr Member300
Member6010
Full Member120100
Sr. Member240250
Hero Member480500
LegendaryRandom in the range 775-10301000
So, looking at the next Rank level the max is 59 activity for a Jr. Member.

whoever who bought up this merit system is praiseworthy.
It's theymos, the admin of this forum.

If you talking about ranking up to Member than you could stay as a Jr. Member as long as your overall merit is below 10. It doesn't matter if you have 60 or above activity you won't be ranking up as you still need to complete the minimum merit requirement to rank up. That is why you are seeing a lot of Jr. Members that has high activity but still is a Jr. Member. The Merit system has affected a lot of people espwcially a lot of members that don't post and kind of contribution to the forum.

Actually sixty is not the Maximum, it goes way above sixty if you take a closer look

You have the clear answer from Harlot. You need both required activity and merit for the next rank to overcome Jr. Member status.

No I did not receive the answer I was expecting. I am clearly aware that a Jr member needs ten merits to go to member status. I am not asking this question for my self as I feel the answers I get are assuming I am in a hurry to rank up and that's definitely not the case. I am focused on working my way up gradually, I don't do any bounties too.

The question was about individuals say who have more than 250 activity levels n zero merit scores. I wanted to know if they can continue that way infinitely without any limitations which I understand does not currently exist ☺. What I personally felt was if there was such limitations, then someone might take effort to contribute good stuff even more so they have to get merit points to stay in the forum. That way they just don't take from the forum they are contributing too.

Hope u understand

Its no limit for maximum activity of Jr. Member with zero merits. Activity are calculated by:

Code:
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

so more post you write and more time you are on bitcointalk, activity will increase without limitation. As I know, there are no rule about maximum activity of Jr. Member without merits

The answer to the title of the thread is infinity.

Your question isn't very clear. Are you asking if there should be some system put in place to ban accounts that get to a certain activity level with zero merit?

Your spot on in your understanding despite the question being a bit confusing for which I apologise.

My question was to know if there's a maximum activity level for a Jr member without any merits as stated in title and in the body I expanded it into additionally include a personal opinion of what I felt would be ideal if there was no specific rule regarding the matter and wanted to know if anyone else thought the same?

I don't think it would be a good idea because there are people that just come here to use the forum to talk to people and they have no interest in getting merit or ranking up. I don't see any reason to punish people for that. I suggested that they should not be able to have signatures so they can't get paid to post as an alternative solution but that doesn't look like it will happen either.

I don't think that banning someone who has ">x activity and 0 merits" is necessary.

For the most part, these types are not participating in the "Discussion" forums anyway, they hang out in the cesspit of "Altcoin [ANN] land" and "Bounties (Altcoin)"... posting their weekly Twitter and/or Facebook links... and spamming away on Twitter/Facebook/Telegram to earn their "stakes" of whatever various ShitCoin currently needs shilling. Undecided

I suspect the reason why all these users are only doing the Twitter/Facebook thing... is that it is much easier to get 1000 Twitter/FB followers than it is to get 10 merit. Roll Eyes

If you suddenly make merit compulsory for just continuing to exist on the forum, they're going to flood the other parts of the forum either shitposting hoping to get merit... or shitposting whining that they can't get merit. Roll Eyes

There is a specimen called "Forever Junior", and its normal behavior is to join as many bounties as it can, as well as spam the forum. There is not a limitation for this specimen as well as the rules are respected, he can spend its time in the Altcoin section and have a million in its activity number if desired. Of course, this kind of specimen probably will never rank-up.

Actually there is no limit for your activity. I can be a very good example of this situation here. I got a lot more activity than  required but I don't have any merits so I'm stuck in here. But I didn't stop. I'm continuously being active in this forum.

You've made some interesting posts, and I gave you a merit for this one.

I don't think your problem is post quality, but posting the 1,000th comment in a mega thread is probably not going to get you any exposure.
