Help for choosing right GPU

Hello,

I'm new to the mining world and would like to start (slowly) mining.

Meanwhile i read a lot and googled, but i was not really successful.

Well, I've got a few old PCs, where i can pick one to mine, power consumption is not realy important, because I've got a "flat-rate".
So what i need and what aim looking for is GPU.

Well i already looked at this hardware comparison, but there are soooo many cards, it's too much for me to choose one.

What i want to pay is up to 300€, maybe a little more.

It's clear that i need an AMD-Card,
so i found for example the HD7950, the Table says that you can get about 720KH/s out of it, is this a good one for the Price?

What i also found is this R9 280x
What das the "X" mean?

What cards are recommendable, and what is rubbish?
Could i even get for the same Price a higher hashrate?

From my Experience the radeon 7950's have a great ratio between Price : Kh/s : Electricity usage

they may not give the best kh/s but the power they use it quite minmal compared to alot of other cards, and wont make your electric bill sky rocket.

The price, depeding on where you are and what brand you buy will run about $350-450(around 300-400 euro i think with current exchange rates)

a R9 270 will get you 450+ khash/s for under $200. That's what I went with for my first rig and I had no issues at all. I was surprised how smooth everything went.

+1 for the 270s.  The 7950s are good performance / watt, but the 270s are even better..

They work very well with the 13.11 Beta / 13.12 drivers. Had virtually no issues setting up 2 5 card boxes.

One box has all MSI 270s, the other box has Asus 270s and all 10 cards are doing 475-480ks on SGMiner 4.0.0 in Win8.1 x64.

As first card, go for a fast, well built and well supported 280x (by the coin mining community) like the ASUS DirectCU II 280x.

Well the Price for the 270 at amazon looks good.

But makes "just" 470KH/s, thats a bit to low for me i think.

But the R9 280x looks also good for me, i found this one (R9 280x [90YV0500-M0NA00
]) on amazon for about 300€.
In the LTC-Table this exact Model is not shown, so i don't know what hashrates this one makes.
Is this the right one?

Is this a good deal?

Or is a 7950 better?

Power is not a problem for me, as I said before.

And another Question, what would you mine actually?
Doge? LTC? or something else?

Just a bit of advice since you say old computer.

Make sure your chosen card will fit since most of these cards are double slot sized. I tried using an old computer at first and the dang fan and heatsink for the cpu was in the way. Ended up with an ugly setup.

Determine if you need any powered risers such as 1x-16x powered usb risers or a larger power supply because it sucks to have delays getting started. I delayed my start by two weeks sorting out this stuff.

I've got at least a few Computers/Motherboards, at least one of them can do the job surely.
Because im not there where this computers are i can't lookup by myself.


But my biggiest problem is actually choosing the right Card, I can't decide for example between this Sapphire-Card and this Asus-Card, both are R9 280.

The Sapphire-Card is in the LTC-Table listet with 752KH/s, the Asus-Card itself not listed, and i even can't find somewhere else some info, just this Thread one litecointalk.

In the Picture i can see a Hashrate of 735KH/s, the Sapphire does 752KH/s, so I would take this one.

Or ar there any other Cards for a similar Price with a better Hashrate?

If you want the absolute fastest 280x, go for the Sapphire Toxic. My Toxic runs at 815kh/s.

But I can't find a shop where this Card is available.
Most shops say it will be available on april, this is a bit late for me.

So, at the moment i would choose the R9 280x from Sapphire (11221-00-20G).

Yeah, some cards are hard to get a hold of now days. Sapphire Vapor-X also goes over 800kh/s. But i`m guessing
that the one you are looking at is Dual-X. I have two of them, and i manage to get them mining at around 750kh/s.
Asus and MSI is also good options. Just stay away from XFX, and you will be ok.

So, now i've got a R9 280x from Sapphire, and it's running

But there is a little problem, I can not use the PC where the Card is working at the moment forever.
I've got still another PC in the house, but the Mainboard has no PCIe x16 slot for the card.

So I'm looking for a new Motherboard, i would prefer a cheap one with an built on CPU.
I've found this Asus MB C8HM70-I, this looks good for me, and has a good price.

My only question is, is there a similar Mainboard like the Asus MB C8HM70-I, which has two or more PCIe x16 slots and an build on CPU for an acceptable Price?

I don't know for what keywords i should google, maybe someone could help me.
