What makes them wanted to do this? I mean, Facebook (social media) and Coinbase (crypto exchange/wallet) have a different business field. If Facebook wanted to buy WhatsApp and Instagram, it makes sense for me as they support the main goal (AFAIK) of Facebook, which is to connect people.

But this Coinbase, did Facebook wanted to expand their 'monopoly' to other business?

I think this is a really positive move and fit's in with the idea the ICO's will soon be found to be securities (Not to mention the amount of dodgy ICO's around)

Airdrops are the way forward for me. Build a coin from scratch not stupid amount of money raised at the start which just causes exchanges to request ridiculous fees either then.

Any business wishing to advertise crypto-related products and services must now prove that they are eligible by filling out a form called “Cryptocurrency Products and Services Onboarding Request” as well as providing proof of ownership of the domain(s) associated with this application.
Even though this has just been officially stated, it is obvious this is something that has been going on or at least tested for a while now and same goes for Google as well since the article also mentioned that, as I have seen some verified ads as well as pages after the initial ban.

However, this is a good move as this is what I have expected anyway and as long as an ICO can show its legitimacy, it will at least help clean up the space from scam ICOs trying to use the space for their devilish reasons. Obviously, these guys cannot ignore the revenue being generated from these ICO adverts, so banning them completely is not a good business option.

They have to review those crypto related companies/services that wants to advertise on Facebook again.

And this is why each of them has to apply for that as shown on their business blog.

According to unconfirmed information, David Marcus (former Vice President for the development of Facebook messenger) persuaded Zuckerberg to buy out Coinbase
Do you have a source on this one? this is going to be another big news if this is ever been on their consideration. But I doubt it will happen, partnership is possible but buying the whole coinbase out?hmmm

the revenue from crypto-related businesses is potentially huge.

they don't give a shit about that revenue. Facebook is making the same amount of money with or without crypto related ads on their platform.

and i believe the reason why they changed their policy is because of the social pressure that was put on them after they banned them. but if they really unbanned everything apart from ICO ads then i thing it is a good thing.

Personally, I think that's very good, what facebook is doing now. The whole ads of the scam ICOs just throw a bad light on Bitcoin and other crypto currencys. I am glad that now again normal crypto ads are allowed. This brings people to the real crypto currencys and not to the scam projects. That's why thumbs up for this decision from facebook.  Smiley

I head that Facebook will be allowing ico ads again soon; with some restrictions. Smart move on their part, as ico campaigns are a big revenue generator. I do hope they vet projects better this time.

Yes, Facebook and Twitter want to updates their AD Policy cannot mention the ICO or investment in ICO since this years, I think the cryptocurrencies still illegal in many countries, scam, FUD and all around the ICO, cryptocurrencies in the bad situation right now.

It's either that or maybe they want to help people connect more in terms of financial matters if it is then owning Coinbase is one of the best decisions in order to achieve that goal.
Obviously, these guys cannot ignore the revenue being generated from these ICO adverts, so banning them completely is not a good business option.
Also, it will save them time because they cannot really ban crypto advertisements completely like how Facebook takes time to remove pornographic contents and pirated movies and videos on an unreported page/group.

Soon they will also allow ico ads, future is bright for all the crypto related products and services, everything is going to implement blockchain technology, it will be of no surprise when even fb will announce that they will be upgrading their platform based on blockchain technology.

At least until facebook have been getting a big scandal with US. I remember there are some canadian countries have created a petition to lift the ban for ico advertisement. If they are all banning facebook from their countries and it can become another big disaster for facebook itself and that's real reason behind it i suppose.

I don't own facebook but i saw ICO ads related on Instgram ( this platform is owned by facebook right?) So it means they don't compeletly banned crypto. I believe the reason why they're doing this because they think crypto is a ponzi scheme or money game they just want to protect their users. It's really bad since projects or wwbsite get a lot of visitors from facebook and one of the good ads flatform in this era.

The main reason is much more global! Return to ICO advertising is not only an attempt to return your income from the advertising business! Most likely in the near future we will see the launch of ICO under the auspices of Facebook itself to keep up with the Telegram! How do you like this idea?

Let's say they wanted to help people connect in terms of financial matters, but I don't think there is not enough reason to buy Coinbase just because of that. Why the hell they want to throw away a lot of money to buy a crypto exchange when there is a lot of available options out there?

I'd rather say they wanted to produce more money, by owning one of the biggest exchange/wallet in the US (CMIIW).

Yes facebook lifted a ban which they inaugurated in January. After several months of evaluation, the company decided to allow some crypto ads on its platform. But facebook still prohibits ads that promote binary options and initial coin offering because it is considered a fraud. I think this can make the price of crypto like bitcoin, ethereum, etc. to rise, this is a good step taken facebook.

Facebook is so user friendly social platform. They analyze the public demand. And crypto os now one of the hot cakes in recent time. I believed that Facebook will revise their decision and accept crypto. And it happend here. I think they have something positive plan regarding crypto in coming days.

Well, maybe for the sole purpose of diversifying.
Normally, I do not see anything wrong in stuffs like this as that is how business is. The essence is to look for a space and try to take advantage of it. It is a game and it is more like trying to acquire it all as long as you can.

Exchange too anyway is more like connecting traders, so I really do not see much difference in the two. The whole ad ban thing and reversing with some regulations is a good thing actually for Facebook and the ad space for crypto.
