I been told by someone I consider much wiser that this may be a good time to put the virtual tools down for a while and take a break from all this BTC madness.

It's easy to become obsessed with the ecosystem, fretting about every piece of bad press and price correction that comes past.

It's easy to become so consumed by this, and unless it's your legitimate full time job not a healthy lifestyle to maintain for an extended period of time.

So I'm putting my BTC on hodl, shutting down the laptop and going off to spend time with friends and family for a change. No mobile tracking apps, no e-mail alerts - nothing.

Time to reclaim my life for a while, I suggest you do the same if you can. Wink

what is this new hodl craze?

if you cant spell 'hold' please don't try turning it into a craze where others end up following.
the reason i think its a failed craze to start, is firstly you don't hold bitcoin as its not physical. you can:
possess
own
control
hoard

so the hodl word which i have seen over a dozen people now use in the last 48 hours, is a total failure

It's obviously people that think butchering the English language is cool (ie teens). If you are so god damn lazy to spell a 4 letter word correctly, in my opinion your credibility is worth less then the shit I just took.

i understand it when you shorten a word to make it easier to type
2m@o - british pronounciation of tomato
2m8o - american pronunciation of tomato

but when a 4 letter word remains a 4 letter word and also the wrong verb, i totally don't see the point in it.

have now found it and am still facepalming myself at the immaturity.

years ago bitcoin use to have smart people coding and smart investors investing... it appears that the teenagers are taking over the community...

i think too much immaturity is the main cause of most of this FUD being spread and the misinterpretation of facts which the media then pulicise without researching.

maybe its time for me to go on a bitcoin holiday and wait a few years for these teenagers to grow up.

Someone on the forums accidentally spelled "hold" as "hodl" in a serious advice post.  It was in huge red bold letters, so it was even more hilarious.  It stuck, and it was quite funny.

You're taking this one too far.  Get a sense of humor.

Also, what is "pulicise"?   Tongue

As the OP of this thread a bit of background of me for you.

I'm no teenager, I'm a 38 year old IT professional in a senior position supporting literally thousands of installed bases across the world. I grew up online during the early days of the pre-internet, running my own Maximus based BBS on OS/2 as an active Fidonet mail node and cut my TCP/IP teeth on remote terminal sessions through to SLIP/PPP sessions during my college days majoring in Data Comms on an IT degree. I played around on the edge of the demo scene, idolizing groups like Future Crew who inspired me to take coding seriously.

I've grown with the Internet through it's youth and grow into the world changing phenomenon it is today. I am seeing the same early stages of growth, development and adoption now with Bitcoin that I lived through with the maturing of the Internet.

So forgive me for having a sense of humor.

Forgive me for my attitude of not taking everything about Bitcoin so seriously all the time.

Forgive me for enjoying being a part of something that excites me and makes me feel like I did those years ago.

Don't judge a book by it's cover, and never assume what you know nothing about.

A nice light hearted topic, taken apart by people who clearly have no sense of humour.

Some people take themselves far too seriously

If Bitcoin has taken over your life and it's negatively effecting you, then just take a break. If you are infact holding/hodling your coins then it doesn't really matter and you don't need to stress over the price.

what is this new hodl craze?

if you cant spell 'hold' please don't try turning it into a craze where others end up following.
the reason i think its a failed craze to start, is firstly you don't hold bitcoin as its not physical. you can:
possess
own
control
hoard

so the hodl word which i have seen over a dozen people now use in the last 48 hours, is a total failure

It's a joke/meme. I think you need to learn to learn to not take things so seriously. And you can hold lots of things that aren't physical, like an opinion.

I don't think he want the stress of selling or buying, just to take a break from all that.
