Hi guys ,

Considering Mtgox's irresponsible activity Angry , i've removed Mtgox bitcoin price ticker from my websites (change to btc-e temporarily).

And i am urging other Chinese bitcoin websites to do the same.

In order to prevent one certain big exchange dominate the market ,  i suggest to use Average price index ( Coindesk BPI ) instead .

any thoughts ?

i've put this up on weibo.com  http://www.weibo.com/3487056872/AvSFamvw9

Hope more players will see . (BTW : my personal opinion : Mtgox's plotted this for a long time , it's not a tech problem as they described )

sooner or later the crypto community will have to move to one price per instrument/pair at any one time, just like the real forex market

Last time I checked, the Coindesk BPI used the average of Bitstamp, BTC-e and (wait for it ....) Gox

Preev.com aswell.

However, recently the prices have been close to equal across all bitcoin exchanges. Odd.

The mtgox price right now is a fantasy, it is not real. How can they publish a price if they can't buy and sell bitcoins.

Mtgox is a big scam

People still use Mt Gox?  Huh Huh Huh Huh

Jesus....

A properly secured wallet with bitcoin is in my opinion the safest, most secure, best all-around bet for holding wealth at this moment in history. Go ahead, call me crazy. They've been calling me crazy since 2013.

Mtgox is a big scam

It is my understanding that you can still actively deposit (which I don't know why you would at this point), and trade with coins already on their exchange.   You just can't withdraw.   I think we are kind of jumping the gun though in trying to remove them from all websites before they have a chance to at least attempt to clear their names by trying to fix things..

It is a long shot but it is still a small possibility that they are telling the truth

Oh, yeah - that sounds like a legitimate organisation - "We're happy to take your deposit, but sorry; we just can't give it back right now. But please, pretend that we're still functioning, and maybe if you wish really hard, we can make it happen."

If GOX wanted to re-establish trust, they would have a plan in place and gone on a PR binge to assure investors/customers that their funds were safe, secure and available for transfer.

Removal of GOX as a quotable exchange is a reasonable suggestion - as an exchange requires being able to actually get your money back out in a reasonable and timely fashion.

Roger Ver ‏@rogerkver  on twitter 8/2/2014 :

Bitcoins on Mtgox are now $40 less than other exchanges.  They should halt all trading until they fix their issues. They are hurting Bitcoin

How do you define "one price" if the reality is that people are trading bitcoins at $800 at one exchange and at $900 at another?

(such a large price difference is a strange situation in itself, but it can and did happen e.g. due to fiat withdrawal problems at the latter exchange)

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I don't agree that it is too early. One should start slowly moving away from Mt.Gox. That way their damage will be less when they do crash. There are better options out there, so why not use them.

Just give them one week or so. If they don't sort out their problems, then we can dump them.
