Die gox die. Gox really needs to die. When gox is finally dead it will symbolize a new era when the market has moved away from centralized manipulated prices and into something more stable and usable from a merchant and user perpective, supported by actual supply, demand, and liquidity.

Mt.Gox is online and operational.

I think there are some trolls taking advantage of the negative mood to try and generate panic selling. Not that it will work because Gox is no longer the only exchange and their volume is lower than most of the other exchanges by now - so in a way Gox matters if you have money there but if they vanish like a noodle, the price of BTC couldn't care...

Rumours of insolvency are also stupid - anyone who understands the exchange business model can tell you that - they make silly amounts of money by just existing - imagine with all the sell transactions happening in the past week - they can probably fund a small country with last week's profits alone!

The actual technical issues at Gox are described here by Bitcoin Dev, Greg Maxwell:

http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2014/02/08/mt-gox-transaction-woes/

So Gox is having real issues that can be seen in the blockchain and have been acknowledged by core developers. The present dilemma is a slow shutdown to sort out an accounting mess - that's what the article implies anyway. However, the fact that Gox has terrible customer service and does not communicate quickly and transparently is a big shame. Unacceptable, and I hope their customers give them a thorough spanking for being bad, bad, bad!

According to isitdownrightnow.com mtgox has been down for about a hour.

Could just be technical issues.
Anyhow FIAT exchanges are lame, nothing but day trader market manipulation.
All FIAT exchanges can leave.

I just don't get why they still allow trading. I mean... This makes no sense - just fuels the panic

i think the opposite would bring more fud and thus far more panic, not adding the fact that disabling trading could be reproached to them more than letting it as is.

i left a market order up. it was to buy at 53377. it just went though twenty minutes later.... 59913. lulz.

I'm not so sure. Gox is just operating pretty poorly. It cannot be sustained as it's currently doing.

I think they are mostly trying to turn this situation into their favor by manipulating the market.
After all , they were the cause for it , so they could benefit the most from this "known" crash.
