I really don't know if this topic has been treated before, well if they were... I shouldn't have had a hard time of getting a feedback from #merit for example.

I observed how this forum is becoming a colossal entity. However, there are no mentions where people could be called to actions or when someone refers to your post (explanations or criticisms).

It would be nice if the admins could work something of the sort to make it more 'social' while maintaining the educative and explorative nature of BTT.

@username could be cool to know someone drew your attention to something within a thread - an answer, an opinion... etc.

#name/ID can be used to track discussions about a particular topic, occurrence or trends within the bitcointalk community and also related to external affairs.

Yeah... Yeah... I know it's not an ingenious idea, just thought it would save the stress of going over tens of threads looking for a reply to something said; can't really watch every post made.

If we get such an option that will be too much helpful. As when you reply on a must others might reply and deserve explanation or another answer but as we do not get notification we cant response that question.

I am sure that if this "mention" will be implemented in the new forum, the merit farmers/abusers/, bitcointalk account sellers, spammers, scammers and alts will be the first people who will experience this.  Grin So that, they still have the chance to defend themselves against their accusations.

Yeah... I did pick that up from that thread, and it would be nice to have them release the feature. It could really be helpful as a time-saving technique and can keep conversational processes active. Besides, if such a feature had already been existing... rather than a search using the 'search tool', one can streamline the search to tags or mentions. But in a way, the search tool does the job [tags] pretty nicely, just that I find it hard to understand the priority of the search [date, activity/most talked about, or location] when it returns the result.

BTW, @jacee where can I see updates of new releases to the forum's software?

How will a mention tag help them? It's just a simplified and more refined approach to keeping up with specific conversations on a thread with multiple pages, whereas some of the comments become buried in the stack.

Only @Username  would be fine !  Hopefully maybe any settings for the "Quote" button  too , because if a lot of Users  everytime quote a post from you it will be to much  notifications like Facebook it does , guess a Lot of Users dont want so much notifications  !

But Staff and Admins will be find a Solution for that , for this way Good Luck !

Naaa... like you said, the 'Quote' feature might just be too much right now. However, if people do 'read' posts carefully, they can quote posters using the mention-tag directly... for example; '@Lafu you suggestion is a nice one just too much of a hassle having notifications each time'... and that specific comment will be drawn to you.

I did see someone try to do that, don't know what he was thinking, but he used my profile link instead of simply using my username. Irked me at the time, like he was pointing people to my profile (REASON still eludes me)... Geez, who does that!?

Please don't!

I use some sites that have the @SummonMe option, and it's only used to draw unimportant attention. I use Show new replies to your posts. to keep track of most posts, and if someone needs me they can PM me.

The new forum software have it's own board of eveything related to it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=167.0
Not sure of any recent update but you can check the threads in there.
Also, The new forum link, beta.bitcointalk.org is inaccessible.

However, there are no mentions where people could be called to actions or when someone refers to your post (explanations or criticisms).

Here is my escape plane and I am sure you will find it handy too.
This is how I do it...

1. Go to search function
2. type your username in between a double quotation mark. e.g: "mdayonliner"
3. Enter a rough message age: For example 2 by replacing 9999, you can keep 9999 but in this case the search will bring everything and it will take long time.
4. Finally click the Search button.

PS: Sometimes this search function acts weird but most of the times it's really helpful. When it acts weird then try changing the number for step 3.

Be happy be at peace. Looking forward to BTC at $1M

wow... No hassle at all. While that works so well, I was more particular about responding to a mention. For example, you made a post and someone after several pages of the thread wants to call an attention to something you said, quoting the text only limits it to those who get to see the post. But you who made the post may not be aware of that.

You can try the watchlist. First, it's a bit strange, but after it's handy.
When you post in a topic, it's automatically (can be changed) added to your watchlist.
I usually use it this way:
First time I had just wiped the watchlist (tabula rasa).
After when I post in a topic, and someone post after, the topic will appear in the watchlist, it shows that there were some kind of activity in the topic.
After, when a topic becomes a spam megathread (in a few days, usually, in Bitcoin Discussion) I just unwatch the topic, and it won't appear again in the watchlist.
Once in a month, I'll go thru on the topics (I click on Edit watchlist) and I delete the topics I don't want to follow anymore.
If you search for it, you can find much better guides for the watchlist, if you are interested.

I would like to get a notification if someone mentions my name if someone uses my name anywhere on the forum. But the '#' part is a big no go. Please don't try to make more changes to this forum. The new forum is still being designed(atleast I hope that something is happening) and new additions to this would only slow things down. If not, then I only see millions of dollars being wasted on nothing.

Having mentions like @ and # and having notifications for it would only make the forum be like Twitter and Facebook, and won't make the forum a "simple machines forum". The simplicity of the forum is enough. Although it would help you reply those who quotes your post or replies on your thread, it will still make a lot of changes in the website.

What's enough is that:
You can see who replies when you notify the thread or the board, and also can see if someone replies on the post you commented in if the thread is bumped and has the replied mark on its thumbnail.
