Thinking about gambling $2500-10,000 on a ASIC miner.

Which brand and model would you choose and why?

I know many think mining is waste of time due to increasing difficult but Id like to learn more.

Buy coins and make a profit of that, mining isn't always profitable.

KnCminer are about to release more details on the largest mining farm to date. You could probably get in on that. Otherwise, look at Cointerra, they have just started shipping.

I would say buy some coins now since all coins crashed after the mtgox news. It's great time to buy.

1) Have you or anyone else bought a miner from KnCminer or Terracoin before?
2) Anyone who has bought an ASIC mind sharing their thoughts?

Yes, I bought the Neptune from KnC. Nothing is available in the market at the moment. Earliest is the May batches from Cointerra.

I have looked at KnC and Cointerra website but nothing available. Sent them both an email asking what is available to purchase whether for delivery now or at a later date.

1) Did you order 1st or 2nd batch of Neptune? It seems all Neptunes are now sold out. Sad
2) What results have you had from mining?

UPDATE: Cointerra May batch is also sold out. Sad

UPDATE 2: Can you recommend a website or blog where I can keep informed of new miner release dates etc so I can jump straight in and purchase when the tiem is right? You talk about Viper miner also so hoping you have an answer for this one. I always seem to be too late and miss out on miners.

From what I've read, your best bet is an antminer s1 from bitmain.  They ship really fast (5 or 6 days)

I'd be leery about cointerra.

read this thread, people are still waiting for December pre-orders by the looks of it. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=444935.20

Gambling is certainly the right word ... well, with gambling you have a shot at winning. Buying a BTC miner at the moment ... almost guaranteed to lose money.

There are cheaper ways to learn about mining. Get a GPU rig together and mine some altcoins. Learn what the game is about. Then decide whether to splash the cash on bitcoin mining.

But hey, its your money ... have fun Smiley

You can probably pull off .1 to .15 BTC a day mining a multi-pool (mines the most profitable alt coin at the time automatically, then cashes out to BTC for you) with a $10k investment. Numbers are always changing everyday though...

http://www.middlecoin.com/allusers.html

Click on the "Paid Out" blue links on the right and you can see what some of these guys are making. Obviously you would need much more then $10k in hardware to be on the top of that list, but you get the gist.

antminers sold out apparently right now.  I bet it has something to do with the price of BTC though.

With the antminers out of stock, it would leave you a toss up between a pre-order and a pre-order... I would never recommend making a pre-order... NEVER! With nobody delivering from stock at a decent price (that I'm aware of), I'd say wait until someone does or the ants become available again. I'd use the specs and price of the ant to compare with anything else on the market because that's a good indication of what's going, anything more expensive should be avoided at all costs.

The antminer is a really easy unit to set up and manage which would be good if you're wanting to learn more, as you said... and it's easily scalable so you can grow in steps as your finances allow and your original investment to get started is a lot smaller, but so is the profit, obviously.

In the end I suggest you do a LOT of your own research, don't trust everything everyone tells you on here... there are a lot of scammers and people with vested interests, so always read between the lines Wink

Yeah, you might want to check out mining scrypt - some interesting players emerging in that market, like Alpha Technology.
