Hey,

I am building my first rig and have a few issues.

1. To start I optimistically just plugged everything in to see what would happen. I bought second hand stuff off eBay. I have 6 Rx580 GPUs and I noticed that the fans on two of the GPUs don't start on boot. All the lights come on though. I have tried swapping the risers and power around etc but it is always the same two. Does this mean that they are most likely broken? Or could it just be some settings that the previous owner set?

2. I am getting no output to the monitor. I have tried several different monitors that I know to work. I have also tried reseating the ram and checking the cpu and fan. I then just stripped everything right back to bare essentials and got the same result. At this point I decided to remove the cmos battery.

3. Up until this point I was getting power but once I put the battery back in the PC doesn't power up at all. I have confirmed that the PSU is ok via the paperclip test. The power was switched off but the cable was still plugged in when I removed the battery. Could this cause damage? Any hope of fixing it?

Any thoughts, help or advice would be really appreciated.

Ok so iv solved point 3, feeling pretty silly. If anyone experiences the same issue. It arrived in a state where it automatically powers up. When I reset the bios this was no longer the case and so now had to use the screwdriver to short the power pins on the motherboard.

Can you try booting up the two graphic cards directly on the motherboard, or in a different PC for test?
Idk much about the mining rigs but for the normal PCs not moving fans is a bad indicator.

Try moving this thread to the mining section, you gonna have higher chase to get correct answers.
Go to the lower left corner and you'll see the Move option.

Thanks, I've moved it. I will try and plug the GPUs directly into the motherboard. From what I have read people say that the fans should only come on at a certain temperature. If that is the case I am wondering why most just start when turned on. The gpus are the GIGABYTE AMD Radeon RX 580 GAMING 4GB.

Most of my cards don't run the fans unless they are being assigned work. Until I start my BAT file they just sit there.

You should also be able to see how many cards your system sees. Seeing as your system was used and already set up I would try letting it run, once the cards start work they should fire up.

A tip for posting, this belongs in the Mining (alt coins) section. This is where all the GPU mining discussions take place.

Reported to MODS to move, or in the future you can scroll to the bottom of the thread and select move topic on the left hand side.

Do not try to plug all the GPUs at the start before even installing the OS and the appropriate drivers. First, install the Windows OS, configure the bios (Lane speeds to x1, disable unnecessary modules like Serial port and such, do not enable 4G Decoding yet).
After Windows boot up, just connect one GPU and install the drivers. After that connect the rest of the GPUs and the drivers will be automatically installed for the same. Then enable 4G Decoding and see if all the GPUs are getting detected.

Thanks a lot. I am thinking of going with HiveOS. Does this not come with all the drivers preinstalled?

1. U need fix fans, or replace new fans (maybe mod fans so good)
2. Normal, u connection from monitor to main (but with gpus, u need connection from monitor to gpu to turn on monitor)
3. What is battery, (battery in comos or battery laptop???)

Pretty refreshing seeing questions like these again, probably because everyone knows that GPU mining is one the way out and it will be next to impossible to profit from newly purchased or even second hand GPU mining rigs.

I hope you know what you're getting into. Try the suggestions posted by people and good luck to you mate.

Thanks for your help. It seems to be coming together slowly. If the fans don't come on Ill just send them back to the seller. For my personal situation it doesn't really matter. You looking to get rid of your gpus?
