You cannot generalize the question like this. If you consider the entire altcoin environment, it will certainly surpass 5 years. It will reach as long as 5 decades and will even go beyond that. However, the catch is that there are so many altcoins out there. There are almost a couple thousands and many of these may not even last a couple of years. So choose the better eggs. And most probably, the better ones are those that have ranked higher.

Depends on which altcoins, what altcoins that you holding right now? I think top 5 or top 10 altcoins at coinmarketcap will survive for the next 5 years. ETH, BCH, LTC, and Dash are a good one to hold. I think altcoin can survive but trash altcoin will not survive, like the price of the token will be super low and useless.

I believe any altcoin can last for even a decade or more. Consider Litecoin which is initially released last 2011, until now, it still exists but if you look at on its graph, we can see how it's market value went down since its last peak last December 2017. But that doesn't mean it's already the end of Litecoin because anything can happen to it as it will surprise us before the end of this year.

I'm extremely confident that the good projects will be much bigger in 5 years' time. We can't group all altcoins together though, there are plenty of good projects but there is also a lot of rubbish out there. If you are planning on holding coins for a long time, then do everything you can to make sure they're good ones.

i was like you . Hodl many alt-shit coins ... now i already sold everything and buy only very good projects , like Ontology - Enigma - Zilliqa and of course Bitcoin ... i dont like Ethereum because exist many new blockchain maybe better and the ETH have high price in my opinion .

It is possible anyway that a particular coin can last in the next 5 years but only those coin that has a good potential can succeed because if a coin has no support at all,  I don't think it could last for at least a year.

Now has registered more than 2050 altcoins on coinmarketcap, this makes the competition so tight and difficult that it will make a lot of altcoins die, I'm sure that coins with a marketcap of more than $ 500 million will survive.
