I noticed before your name choice poll, but I didn't like the choices much except perhaps silicoin. I like unigit because it isn't lost in the dozens of "coin" altcoins, but it is not obvious that it means money.

Btw, that name Ethereum is not going to work. It is extremely difficult to select a name for the next currency of the world. I understand "it lives in the ether" but that isn't going to work for most people. It needs to sound like money, but not "coin".

Ethereum is too difficult to pronounce and spell.

Another problem is the units of the currency, i.e. "I own 3 ethereums" because it is not clear that an etheruem is a unit, i.e. 3 ethers. Whereas "I own 3 bitcoins" is clearly 3 coins.

Some people might be tempted to pronounce it as "uni-get" instead of "uni-jet", yet that isn't the phonetics of the spelling in english words so they would be clearly in error except that I think people mispronounce github as "get-hub" instead of "jet-hub"?

I don't like any of the ones that end in gold. It is not gold and I feel it is disingenuous.
Don't care for Moola as a prefix either.

I like the endings bit and coin (bit might be preferable because there are going to but a crazy ton garbage altcoins that end in coin in the near future)

You might want to consider the .net names. They may open up some additional alternatives.
You don't need a .com or .org name to succeed.

Just look at minecraft.net

I also like the .net domain for cryptocurrency because the net is what they are all about.

After much deliberation, I voted for masscoin.

My reasons are as follows.

• Easy to spell and say. It rolls off the tongue well.
• Serious. The moola and ching are too cartoon-ish to invoke serious investors.
• Positive name because mass implies strength in size and numbers. Most of the other names convey negativity or at least lack of positivity.
• No undesirable meaning, except if one assumes it is a heavy coin. Worse for example silicoin might have something to with silicone rubber and even breast implants, and bionicoin implies a mechanical and physical apparatus.
• Unlike Bitcoin, a coin which can only be mined from PCs would be a coin of the masses.
• Unlike Bitcoin, a coin which was resistant to centralization would be a coin of the masses.
• Unlike Bitcoin, a coin in which nearly every user is anonymous would be a coin of the masses.
• Best altcoins will stand out regardless if their name contains coin and names without coin, cash, bucks or money do not instantly convey correct meaning to most people. It will be very difficult to brand a name without one of those words and especially given Bitcoin's marketing lead and network effects.
• Good it doesn't contain gold which is paradoxical to the internet.
• My definition of matter is that mass is an emergent Shannon information (entropy) effect, i.e. inertial frames exist for information that stimulate real effects analogous to tangible effects that stimulate physical senses and outcomes. The distinction is arbitrary.

I saw that masscoin.com was for sale for $57, so I purchased it. What a steal. I paid $500 for coolpage.com in the late 1990s when the internet was orders-of-magnitude smaller. I will transfer this to you if you decide to choose masscoin. Perhaps you can send me some masscoins in the future to pay me back.

I suppose PCcoin does imply a cpu-only coin since your stated design is proof-of-work. Masscoin sounds more powerful yet doesn't convey that it is digital money.

Proof-of-stake requires no significant computation thus runs on any PC, but it can't be a coin of the masses because it can't distribute new coin in any competitive manner accessible to those only with a PC. Wealth is power law distributed¹ thus transactions will never do the job that socialism does to redistribute wealth to the masses and prevent the wealthiest 1% from owning everything. For money to not end up fiat where it can be debased top-down by socialism, the decentralized crypto-currency must be able to do the redistribution job that socialism is doing.

If the abbreviation of a village name can morph into the name of several currencies like thaler, daalder, dollar, then I think you could afford yourself some liberties with names as well. Might not be a bad idea in order to put a bit of distance between bitcoin and the coin-crowd by also using a completely different naming scheme.

But I admit I might be too late with my suggestions. I only discovered this thread late yesterday evening, while searching for discussions about the future that weren't as pink-glasses-distorted as the ones I normally encounter.

Keep in mind that from a SEO (Search Engine Optimization) perspective, Google will favour the .com variant over a .org, and a .org over a .net when competing for similar keyword/phrases.
