Crypto-Troll John McAfee Claims HitBTC ‘Killed People,’ Calls for Boycott.

Cybersecurity pioneer-turned-crypto-troll John McAfee is at it again, and this time he’s setting his sights on HitBTC, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges.

McAfee began his war on HitBTC last week, when, without clear provocation, he called for a boycott on the Hong Kong-based exchange, which has more than $270 million in daily trading volume.

“The crypto exchanges have become the thing that we have originally fought against. Their power is immense. Hitbtc, for example, has increased suffering for millions of poor people who cannot afford the minimum buy-in since it is greater than their monthly income,” he tweeted. “Boycott them.”

McAfee seems to be referring to the withdrawal fees that HitBTC, like virtually all other exchanges, charge when customers remove assets from the platform, though his tweets are tellingly vague about the precise nature of his grievance.

The provocateur, who claims to have recently been the victim of a failed assassination attempt, continued his verbal assault throughout the weekend, vowing to be HitBTC’s “worst enemy” until the company takes unspecified steps to address the unspecified issue.

On Saturday, HitBTC issued a formal response to McAfee, thanking him — perhaps cheekily — for taking the “discourse to another level” and explaining the company’s policy on calculating withdrawal fees. The exchange further invited him to convey his advice on how to implement an “algorithmic solution” that would render its withdrawal fees less subject to the price volatility of the associated assets.

“Thank you for being the voice of the crypto community!, the note concluded. “We share your values!”

McAfee, it seems, disagreed, as evidenced by his reply:

“Your algorithm killed an unknown number of people. You tell me what algorithm recompenses these deaths. You have unjustly subgected Docademic [sic]. Tell me sir what do you owe to them? Docademic deserves your highest priority to make things just for your past offenses.”

While it’s possible that McAfee — who until recently charged $105,000 per tweet to promote initial coin offerings (ICO) — is truly concerned about the plight of HitBTC’s less-fortunate customers, the saga appears to be a dramatic ploy to plug Docademic, an ICO token referenced throughout his tweetstorm.

Despite claiming that he would no longer promote ICOs due to pressure from U.S. regulators, McAfee has been shilling this token on his Twitter account for several weeks, even claiming that it could hit $10 per unit by next year, up from a present value of $0.25. It’s not clear whether Docademic is paying McAfee for these tweets, but he has said on Twitter that he has invested in the project’s token.

I've been attempting to decipher his tweets about this but have come up cold. His latest one posted his phone number for some reason.

Whatever his point is, HitBTC certainly sounds like a shithole without 'killing people'.

The Legendary Shiller and also the Legendary Troll. I feel the embarassment on whatever he is doing in the the cryptoscene. He tried to ruin Binance's reputation previously which is really not acceptable to me. I still wonder why there are still people who follows him.

Mr. Soon to be Dickless are making a spectacle of himself in public. They should take away his "Internet" privileges when he is under the influence of some of the drugs that he is using. The guy was a legend, but he is now fallen into a stage of his life where he is turning into an embarrassment for himself and the people around him.

Nobody is taking any of his statements on Twitter seriously anymore, because it is incoherent ramblings at times.  Sad

I agree that centralized cryptocurrency exchange platforms are turning into crypto banks. They do whatever they want with people`s savings and nobody can punish them for that.HitBtc takes a lot of hate(which they probably deserve),but all crypto platforms are the same.
We need more decentralized crypto trading platforms ASAP.
John McAfee is mental, that`s for sure...

I am surprised on how John McAfee is slowly killing his reputation with this article calling him a "crypto-troll" I know this would be the start of his fall. He was once a highly influential person in the cryptocurrency community so influential that he used it to his advantage and started doing paid Twitter promotions for 105,000$ per Tweet as he and the ICO's developers knows that the ICO will start pumping with his Twitter promotion. With a lot of newbies being aware in the market as well as they are getting experience from it people like John McAfee will be a thing of the past as their words won't be bearing no kind of value whatsoever as no one will be believing his words anymore.

He may be influential, but he's always been on the trollish side of things and whatever reputation he has never came from crypto. He just sort of... appeared one day. He didn't even know there'd been two Bitcoin halvings so far when the subject came up.

The MGT mining thing was his one bit of crypto legitimacy but he didn't last too long with the actual company.

Taking away internet privileges would be somehow worthy on that troll to keep his mouth shut of. When he step up into crypto its quite boosting up when he do make such positive words but the time had changed and word do always been negative on crypto and i dont know on what are the things running into his mind why do mention those stupid thing as he want to.
Hes literally destroying up his own reputation and there are already names being called to him which was definitely suit him best.
