Please, mods, stop this

Recently the meta board has become a beggers fest, either with threads related to the recovery of some banned accounts, or a constant seek of merits.
Some examples just picked from the last couple of days (!!!):

- Another guy complaining about how difficult is to achieve merits even when his/her post-history sucks:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4598892.0

The Meta board is one of the favorites to get involved in passionate, thoughtful and great debates. I'm afraid that, if we continue this way, this is going to become another spam-fest board, and I'm sure no one wants that.

So I have some questions:
- Is it ok to report to moderator this kind of posts?
- Is locking them enough? I truly believe those ones need to be trashed, to be honest.
- Do we actually need a dedicated mod in here?

Fixing this kind of issue immediately will save the Meta section from these shitposters. Spammers are now having good time posting shitposts here in meta section and it is starting to be their hobby as shitposts are being generated here daily. We can't just let this problem get any worse.

I can't recommend any solution for now but maybe moderators has something to do with it. This is a serious problem.

Its not just the Meta board almost all boards are being over run by spammers currently and to be honest I see a lot of people leaving and if it carries on there will be no point in opening a thread anywhere other than serious discussion which currently does not have enough people active there to have a discussion.

===> I guess reporting these kind of posts are a bit tricky for the reporter. There are no specific instructions so, your report may end up unhandled or the worse case is bad report (not sure 100%).

A mod to the board? I think this might be a great solution. Maybe LoiceV? Vod? I have many members in mind and I'm sure they absolutely are going to do a great job in caring the Meta.

The Serious Discussion board is also becoming another spam-fest. I'm afraid that the only one left is the Ivory Tower, but this one is quite silent.

- Repeated topic no use. ref: xyz url
- Useless merit begging topic.
- Broken tap recorder. Moaning against merit with nothing new.
- Few line shit topic creator with no insight.

I am not sure about mods but I feel we need more mod/admin to recover accounts. That thing is really upsetting and the one who is/was facing it knows how it feels. Think about your account for once. What would you do if the same hack/lock or anything happen just now or anytime?

I do think that people who are posting here about their ban with a newly created account is within their rights given by the forum rules and is not breaking any rules based on this rules/guideline created by mprep:

25. If you get banned (temporary or permanently) and create a new account to continue posting / sending PMs, it's considered ban evasion. The only exception is creating a thread in Meta about your ban.

The only way they are breaking the rule is if they continued on posting other threads aside from the thread you created in the Meta Section or if you are sending private message to other members. If they are going outside of their limits then I think it is time to report them to the moderator. But if they are only using the new account for justifying if the ban they receive is wrong then I don't think we have control over that.

Reporting them to the moderator is still the best solution if you really want to clean up this section. Just take note that our mods don't work 24/7 just to handle all the reports. Its still better to report it than never.

Is there any monitoring if a couple of members already reported the same topics? I think with this solution, we could already see the topic in which need an action. Just an opinion

Yes, but new ones are going to come. To me, the issue is: if we allow this kind of shitposts in here, more are about to come. Locking them still gives other's the opportunity of reading the thread and gives "ideas".
That's why I don't completely like the "lock" idea, for it is not a rare problem, it is happening more and more each day. Are we going to have a Meta full of locked threads?

Agree, but I think this rule is kind of old for the current situation: as more shitposters, more banned accounts, so maybe the option they have of coming in here to try to recover their account is no longer useful, given the situation.
Besides, they also have the possibility of sending a PM and to try to explain their motifs (if any). Whatever, it looks like an "old" rule that might be changed.
Maybe we can have a board dedicated to banned accounts, how knows.

I have already asked the same question from the admins, regarding this annoying posts by only saying " how I get banned, How to recover my account....bla bla." So here's the summery what I have got from other senior members.

By considering all the facts my initial impression about new subforum has been changed to two best possible methods suggested by Welsh and LTU_btc as follows,(Thanks for your practical solutions)

- Showing the reasons of banned when someone login into a banned account
- Showing massage to contact Theymos/Cyrus when someone gets banned

So I'm hoping someone having powers will see this thread and take actions someday. Lets together make Meta section clog free(at least less)

Mods sometimes not locking the one actually needed to be locked and you know I also have unsolved mystery regarding locking of some threads, including mine. I think you know what I meaned.

This could be a nice decoy, just create a new section and label it junk - or something a little bit more witty and subtle. All irrelevant threads and posts can be sent there. If anyone observes a new thread of the sort, it should be trashed immediately - almost as simple as a drag and drop.

It's obvious that people are abusing the privileges of using the meta section for ban threads even when it is irrelevant or their fault. As for newbie accounts, the fact that the restrictions and IP sensors are heuristic measures for the prevention of multiple newbie accounts is quite understandable.

I agree with OP. I think meta should be the cleanest section on this forum and we don’t stop getting posts complaining about merit full of exaggerations and falsehoods.

I recently reported a post complaining about merit and it has been unhandled. I think those posts should be trashed. It is OK to give the opportunity to complain but we have had too many posts like that.

To be fair the threads similar of your are created very often and that's boring too. Why the hell do you care so much about them? Once I was like you but now I hang on them. Do you have questions related to bitcoin? There are always people who will help you in any way.
Those shit thread creators and shitposters want our attention, we have to hang on them.

Unfortunately, a select few people who have ZERO managed to make a few $£ from here have told their friends and they have told their friends and they have no interest in anyone or anything other than trying to make some money from here.

In many ways this is the problem with an extremely popular website. If people can exploit it to make quick cash because they are from a disadvantaged background- they will.

As for me, i live in the UK so anything i could possibly make from here would barely put a dent in my outgoings. On the other hand someone from Vietnam, Thailand, Pakistan etc the returns are comparable to a kings ransom!

I’d say that various combined factors may sway the chances of being one kind of poster or another. Factors such as (but not limited to) the following weigh in:

- Age: Younger (let’s say under 25 for example) people tend to write shorter messages, as is part of their digital DNA acquired through habits and social apps that they use. They tend to write short messages on social networks and personal messaging systems. When entering this forum, these habits swing their posting to short non-elaborate replies. The older one is, the more elaborate on tends to be, not only due to maturity, but also to acquired habits.
Age should also correlate to maturity of character and, therefore, one should be more involved when one is out of their teens and early twenties.

- Studies/cultural level: The more one has studied in life, the more likely one is to have a better set of resources to express themselves, and to build up arguments to back them up.

- Board Language Skill: The more one is skilled in the language, the more chances of being able to express themselves properly without sounding too comical, and with a deeper approach to transmitting what one has in mind.

- Work: Type of job, remuneration, etc.

The rest all fall to some extent as a result of the above, and people from different countries/regions are but an expression of these weighed variables. Geographical areas differ enormously on the above variables that conform the breeding ground for personal development, and thus people come out as crappy posters in larger proportions in some areas than others.

Of course the above is not canonical, and I’m sure everyone can find counter examples everywhere. It’s really a question of probability derived from the clustering of the above variables. Not every one from poorer countries are going to be shitposters, the same as not everyone from the most developed countries are excellent posters. Neither are all young people going to be inarticulate whilst all older people close to Shakespeare or Cervantes in style.
Finding a counter-example that breaks the “all xx are yyy” assertion is trivial, and that is why probability derived from variable clusters is what I favour as persona descriptors.

Having said all that, yes, please, listen to @seoincorporation request. While we may understand the motives (deep down), we definitively do not like to suffer the constant spamming on what is one of the only serious boards that one can enjoy without having to prune too much.

Totally agree. I've seen shitposters from all over the world. I am from the third world and to me was really difficult to learn English, I've learned by myself how to write more or less properly, by reading a lot, by studying the grammar, and I is still kind of difficult for me to write some complex insights in English, to be honest, sometimes I spend a lot of time in one single post or quote.
To me, the reasons behind a shitposter are not from my concern. If they want to earn some bucks, they know how and were, they don't need to come here and cry because they want merits too.

The central issue is about the Meta (for now). There are other boards falling fast into a spam-fest, but if you divide your problems, you have more probabilities of finding a solution. So maybe a good mod in here will serve to the purpose of stopping all those unnecessary threads coming and coming each day (I just took a quick look and they are some more just today).
