I think that most people understand what a fork is, but it is quite interesting that you add a calendar. I think that the most important incoming forks are those related to ethereum.

I can't imagine on how many forks has passed after seeing this link for the list of forks that we got.

I'm sure that amount of forks will dramatically grow next years.
Many of newly appeared projects start from ERC20 and later develop their own blockchains simply making forks from existing ones.

From the technical point of view - yes. But there is also marketing value, which appeared to be much more important than any modern blockchain technology.
