I was wondering, how long am I going to have that embarrassing "Newbie" badge next to my name, since I have been into bitcoins in a big way for awhile now. So I looked it up. I'll be a Newbie until I hit 50 posts. The levels are:
Newbie < 50 Jr. Member < 100 Full Member < 250 Sr. Member < 500 Hero Member >= 500
I wish I could donate 1 BTC to the forum and have my badge changed to "Enthusiast" or something. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to converse more.

OK I'll help... What country are you in? Why are you interested in BitCoins? Cheers, Mike

Heh. Thanks. I'm in the U.S., and I think Bitcoins will be ridiculously valuable someday, so I'm devoting as much of my meager budget as I can to collecting them. How about you?

It occurs to me it would be nice to have trust ratings integrated into the forum, as long as we're doing trading here. Not sure how easy that is to do.

Kiba you're always looking for ways to earn btc, you should sell your user name. Bet you could get 100 btc for it.

I'm slowly collecting them at this stage, either as a small investment or just for fun to give away or exchange for stuff online. Sorry for delayed reply - just found the "Show new replies to your posts." link - I'd been using "Show unread posts since last visit." instead.

Does that mean I have a high reputation?

Sure! Welcome to the forum. I guess a community revolving around a pseudonymous currency doesn't much value an introduction section. But there's a range of ideologies or lack thereof here so don't be afraid if you're not into anonymity. Feel free to tell us about yourself or to ask questions.

Welcome to the BitCoin forum! A lot of people on this forum have strong opinions, but most people are quite friendly and at least civil in discussions. Don't be afraid to ask questions and talk about stuff. Just try to post in the relevant topics.

I like how the the status on this forum is merit based (based on your number of posts), rather than democratically or monetarily.

I.e. it's not really merit based, 'cause if it was, posts like the above wouldn't count. If I was running a forum, I'd have certain requirements on posts. Such as a minimum word count, and must not match certain patterns (e.g. case-insensitive "me too"). That would hopefully increase the number of valuable contributions, while getting rid of the rest.
(Conveniently, PHP has a function str_word_count() that does exactly this. Heh. Off to write a WordPress plugin...)

Bitcoin is designed such that every node has a database filled with the IP addresses of nearly every other node. The map was created by collecting these stored IP addresses from nodes and then geolocating them.
