Someone who likes a video could click a button and tip him a fraction of a cent.

The YouTipIt site is really well-done. Is the owner on these forums?

youtube's content is financed through the advertisements. that's the underlying business model: build a content platform for videos and finance (good) content through display ads.
so, that's where you should click at  Wink

They mean to tip the person who made the video, similar to the 'tip me if you liked my post' a lot of people have in their signatures.

YouTipIt is so awesome.  They have good integration settings with most files, including YouTube.  A couple of the guys from the site are on the forums.   They have to be one of the longer lasting Bitcoin services that keeps on truckin.

Mahkul said that he knows the owners personally,
and that they are good pips Smiley

I actually bought coins there, and all went well,
that is how I know about them...

i have never in all my years on youtube clicked an ad.

has anyone here genuinely been interested in an ad they saw on youtube?
especially interested to hear if anyone has ever clicked an 'overlay' ad on one of the videos.

they'd make more money out of me (more than 0) if they just asked me for a yearly membership fee.

the popup ads on the videos are some of the most irritating on the web.

I do not recall ever clicking on any ad on the internet that wasn't on accident.  Forced embedded video or audio content and overlays will rule the web in the end.

I guess you could make a video site like stumbleupon videos that wrap all popular video sites and put a tipping feature. It's probably not possible to disable youtube ads, so maybe it's not the best candidate. You will be able to tip any video, and any owner can get in and claim the tips (don't know how but openid would probably help, or otherwise a Bitcoin address publicized through original content page). The amount that's never been claimed goes back to the tipper after a period. This way, there is incentive for content creators to be aware of Bitcoin.

I've never seen ads on Youtube - I have adblockplus in firefox and I assumed everyone had. Is that why I don't see ads on Youtube - that's why I thought I never see ads in youtube. (or maybe it's because I'm watching from the UK and they have different rules?)

Better would be to create a new website like YouTube but all ads are paid for with Bitcoin.  It's popularity will grow because...well...people want to be popular.  Main problem would be affording necessary bandwidth.

People like to be the center of the attention and they like knowing that people are interested in them.

Capitalize on peoples' desires.  Then get rich.
