Hi there,

I'm a writer and new to this whole blockchain game. I would love to learn more about blockchain and be able to explain in the simplest way so the everyday person with no blockchain background can grasp the beauty of this technology. Can someone please try to breakdown the explanation of blockchain to the point where a 5th grader can understand it? Thanks!

You can try searching in google. There are videos and articles that explains how blockchain works in the simplest way they can.
An example of this is here:

a video explaining to a kid:

I hope this gives you an idea.

Just use the references given by the user above to explain blockchain to the point where a 5th grader can understand it, just be sure to use layman terms instead of using words that are difficult to understand for them to understand it better. For example, instead of using peer-to-peer, use person-to-person because it would be easier for a 5th grader to understand it. Ao

I think here is a basic definition of it with some illustration:

What is Blockchain?

  • It is like a database duplicated thousand of times across a network of computers, in which the network of computers have access to the database at the same time to regularly update the said database;
  • Information are shared (and continually reconciled) throughout the whole network; and
  • Data are accessible to anyone - no centralized version exists for hacker to target to corrupt.

How Blockchain Works?

I think it is wonderfully shown on the picture below:

Hi JannelleGarcia,

I can highly recommend the article I found on Medium: "Trustworthiness in the Age of Bitcoin, Explained Through Emojis"

You can find the article here: https://medium.com/s/story/making-money-trustworthy-6c552a1cfc25

It not only grasps your attention, the pictorial language through use of Emojis also explains the topic well to newbies (and this way, it is probably also more interesting for 5th graders  Wink)
