Hello Friends !!

I am very new to Bitcoin system. Thanks to bitcointalk that it is making my life a bit easy. I have 3 simple questions.

1. I have Dell Optiplex 755 Core 2 duo, 3 GHZ, 550 H.Drive with 3 GB of RAM, 1 GB NVIDVIA Graphic Card (Can i use it for mining) ?

2. Which software is best for my system for mining ? ( I am using 1 MB Internet)

3. I have downloaded Bitcoin-QT (Though it is still Synchronizing with Network and still 67 weeks behind) What is Bitcoin-QT for ?

Thanks

1. What's your NVIDVIA model?

2. Depends on your NVIDVIA model.

3. Bitcoin-QT for sending, receiving, viewing btc. (Wallet)

Welcome to the bitcoin world, kamransarfaraz Smiley

As jarhed mentioned, we need to know your GPU model to see if it is profitable to mine scrypt coins using your GPU.

Hi!

I couldn't find a firm number on your model GPU, but I think you can expect about 15-20 KHash with Cudaminer. I probably would not mine with this, as it's going to cost you more in electricity than you would make. However, if you decide to take the plunge and try it anyway (why not, it's fun to learn something new), my site may help a little:

Please excuse that I have not updated in a couple of days - RL is busy at the moment for me Smiley Still, it should answer some basic questions for you.

Nvidia GeForce GT 220

GT220 is a low-end graphics card released in 2009...
You can mine with it, but don't expect to get much hashrate....

If you want to mine, here is a simple way:

Get GUIMiner-scrypt https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=150331.0
Very easy to use and it has presets for a lot of cards. Get the required downloads off that link.

Get multibit wallet. https://multibit.org/ and create a bitcoin wallet address

Mine on middlecoin pool http://www.middlecoin.com/ It's real easy to mine on with guiminer-scrypt. Just paste your bitcoin address and any password you make up into guiminer-scrypt and if you have a card that matches one of their presets, use the preset and off you go. Then just learn how to tweak settings and you will get a better hashrate.

This is essentially what I'm doing and I've managed to get my hashrate within 1khash of the top listed hash for my card here:  https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison

My recommendation is to not even bother with the nvidia card for mining. You could use that one for your display graphics and get a better gpu for mining. Best card for mining seems to be AMD HD7950 as it offers a high amount of hashes on a low power consumption.

If you decide to get a better gpu, you will need a new power supply because it seems that computer has only a 280 watt psu. Most cards recommend you having a 500w psu but you might even need a 750w. Your dell specs show the pcie slot to be 1 PCIe x16 full height graphics, -(H: 4.2" X L: 9") so make sure any card you buy fits within that. I would leave the cover off the case to not trap heat.

It is very hard to make a profit on GPU mining bitcoin. You should spend some time and look into altcoins on SCRYPT algo. Those could be profitable at the moment. Mining bitcoin on GPU these days will barely cover your electricity bill.

Welcome to the forums. Use sites like multipool, hashcows and middlecoin. They auto mine the most profitable alt coins and then pay you in bitcoin to your wallet. Also use facets when you have time. There are 2 good ones in my signature. You can use them to trade for alt coins. If you look for new coins with potential; buy them at one satoshi. hold them until they go up in value then sell them. if you apply compounding and the rule of 72 they soon stack up and grow. The reddcoin faucet is paying 50 - 65 reddcoin at the moment. Redd.cravegig.com it is also linked on the Reddcoin home page.  Also have a look at Karmacoin and Dogecoin faucets. All 3 of those coins are gaining in value so hold them and trade them for btc as and when you think it is best.
