So, we know that if we want to succeed with this experiment, we must get people to use and accept bitcoins. Bitcoin adoption will only grow, if there are merchants and services that accept it.

How many times have you wished that your favorite shop accepted Bitcoin as a payment option? Did you ask them if they know about this and if they are considering this?

I had made it my primary goal to go out there and to actively convince people to accept Bitcoin as a payment option. They have nothing to lose, because it is just a additional payment option. <Just need a little more training>

We should have teams of people that are actively involved into training merchants to accept Bitcoin as a payment option. <Free service>, if we want Bitcoin to become a alternative payment option.

Forget for one moment that some people want Bitcoin to be a "Commodity" or a "Store of Value" and focus on trying to stimulate the "Payment/Currency" side of Bitcoin.

Are you waiting for other people to do this or are you doing this yourself? If you are doing this, please take part in the Poll to indicate how involved you are in doing this.  Wink
It is very difficult to explain what bitcoin is and accept it for payment. in my country. only about 15-20% of the population knows bitcoin. and only a few understand bitcoin. So I think at the present time. It is difficult to convince someone to accept payment by bitcoin

Totally agree with @Kakamakr
With other words, i am against hodl'ers, by bitcoin definition title " Bitcoin:A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System " not a peer-to-store of value

I understand what you are trying to say but your logic is flawed.

Bitcoin is a cash system and it is cash but it also has limited supply which makes it a store of value.

If you knew your FIAT money was going to gain value every day, every month without stopping would you spend it? If you knew that $50k would buy you 2 houses next year while it is not enough to buy 1 house today? (You can replace FIAT with gold, btc, ltc, doge or anything. The answer will be the same) If you say "yes" to this question then you must be retarded.

Bitcoin is just like that. People know that it is going to go up so they don't want to spend it. Any one says the otherwise is a liar.

Buyers shouldn't convince the sellers. It is the sellers who must insist on taking bitcoins as a payment. Read my first message at the beginning of this topic. This is how you raise awareness. If you are not a seller or a business owner there isn't much you can make about it.

A btc user/hodler should only think about raising his bitcoin amounts just like the seller should. And the seller has an advantage in this situation. If the seller accepts only bitcoin, then the buyer will have no choice but hand over his precious bitcoins to the seller. When the buyer spends his bitcoins, he is going to buy more to fill up his stash again.

TLDR; you are asking the wrong question.

The question should be:

"How many customers have you convinced to spend their bitcoins?"

No, the question is specifically targeted to the Merchants for a reason. No matter how long you hoard or how many coins you buy, it eventually needs a Merchant network for you to spend it. A lot of us do not want to continuously convert to fiat currencies to spend our bitcoins. The merchants accepting Bitcoin as a payment option is very important, if you look at the bigger picture. < A picture, where fiat currencies are replaced by Bitcoin >

Once we create the "use case" and the alternative option, then people will have a choice. A few years ago, this choice became very important, because governments applied pressure to payment companies, to stop payments to sites like WikiLeaks and BackPage and Bitcoin was there to help these people, by offering them a alternative to these payment options.

Do you see the bigger picture now?

I am saying that you don't need to waste your time with convincing the merchants and merchants specifically. A smart merchant will educate himself and exactly know what to do with bitcoins. That's what I like about this business. (I mean being a merchant/trader/business owner) If they stay behind, they lose money. They always have to follow the money and update their knowledge.

Instead of trying to convince mercs specifically, just focus on educating everybody. It will be the merchants' loss if they don't adapt to the new system at the end of the day.

And if you have something to sell, always insist on getting paid in bitcoins. This is the best thing you can do to raise awareness. The customer will wonder "Why does he ask for bitcoins and bitcoins only? Why not any other shitcoin? Why not USD? What is it so special about bitcoins?"

He will eventually ask questions and you'll explain him what it is about.

I tried it so many times some refuse to accept bitcoin and some accepted my payments, first time i tried it is when i bought a shoes from a surplus store and the cashier denied my payment because they are syaing that they dont know how to use that currency that was my first time, then i tried it again after several weeks and bought a gadget and i offer to pay in bitcoin and this cashier accepted my offer because they are using a bitcoin wallet. so the catch here is the technology it self some are knowledgeable and others are not.

Did they allow you to pay to them directly or did they use a payment gateway to handle the conversion? Maybe it's better to present them the available options to professionally accept Bitcoin, which could work out in their benefit in various ways. Accepting Bitcoin directly is great since coins aren't being dumped on the market directly or shortly after, but they could end up with a bad taste in their mouth seeing the value plummet to bottom levels. Stores are mostly just interested in potential sales and to get fiat in return that they can directly use to buy stock or whatever else they need for their store.

No my friend. I have been doing this for years now and I have seldom found one merchant that known about Bitcoin, before I spoke to them and the ones that knew about it was misinformed by the media. I "converted" a guesthouse last week and that owner only heard about Silkroad and drugs and MtGox and how unsafe it was supposed to be.

These merchants needs people like us to take them by the hand and to guide them through the landmines. When they do this on their own and they fail, then merchants around them will not even consider it, but when we help them and they succeed, then other merchants will follow their example.

See what I am saying?

Actually, I didn’t convince anyone but I told some of my friends to invest on it and told them the benefit of it. They didn’t relay on my words. But when they studied about it and came to know more about it,then they insisted me to clear them more. Now they are holding some.

I have never has the opportunity of having yo convinced a merchant of accepting bitcoin. Most people in my locality only accept fiat currency. All I have to do is to convert my bitcoins into fiat using an exchange and then use it for whatever purpose it is intended for.
I have however convinced some few friends to accept bitcoin and invest in it to earn money.

Now bitcoin is not just a name or just a crypto currency, it is a investment on which millions of people are investing with a great trust, it is a another name for trust and people also know that one day bitcoin is going to be the central currency globally , inspite of having millions of users, there are still millions of people who are unknown to bitcoin and specially those who lives in remote areas where there is no access to internet and for that we need to create awareness among those people regarding bitcoin.

I live in small towns here without encryption. I bought a bed from amazon.com and it broke for 1 month. Do you think people will use bitcoin when there is no anti-fraud protection from the seller?

I wouldn't want any of the merchants to accept bitcoins at the moment, because it's inconvenient, now the transactions are not fast enough to pay for goods and services, the bitcoin price is very volatile.

I haven't started yet. However, my dad and I are planning to re-open our coffee hub, and we will be accepting Bitcoin for payments. There's a co-working space I knew who accepted Bitcoin for payments, but when I came back there after a year or so, they no longer accepting it due to some misunderstandings. I am going to a study hub this weekend to propose to them about accepting Bitcoin as alternative payment method.

Bitcoin marketing is done on local level. At government  level there is no facilities for import and export of bitcoin. It depends on trust of anyone upon you whom you convinced for sales of bitcoin. Everyone have different opinion on bitcoin marketing.

Having in mind my country, not many.
Merchants are still not very keen to accept bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency.  It's still too expensive and too risky for them, also cryptocurrencies are not regulated yet. Just few merchants enthusiasts are willing to do business with cryptocurrencies.
