Hi,

How much TPS do we need in the real world? (Transaction Per Second)

I see many nice projects, but i'm not sure these projects are still alive after some years.
- Ethereum max 20 TPS
- Bitcoin Max 3-7 TPS
- ICON (ICX) 9000+ TPS
- Wanchain Unknown
- Ark 5TPS
- EOS 100.000 TPS (not sure they will reach it)

- Hashgraph 500.000 TPS (not yet available)
- Quarkchain 100.000 TPS (only did 3000 now)

So how much do we need do you think?

EOS is currenyly only around 4k -5k TPS. This is my opinion about that and we can try to see VISA and it has been using around 24k TPS to cover all of the transactions around the world and that's enough.
But if there will be another purpose such as to be used to developer dapps and it needs more TPS. But that depends on the demand and remember this if you are developing 1 million TPS platform and it has no demand and that will become another crap thing.

I think we will see much more then only transactions.
- transactions
- smart contracts
- storage

The plasma protocol will allow the Ethereum network to handle 22,000 TPS, That number has surpassed the speed of VISA processing and I think that number is more than enough to handle Crypto transactions in the real world at the moment but, if I imagine the capacity to handle all transactions in the world. I think we need unlimited transactions per second to handle it

https://www.ccn.com/bankex-plasma-protocol-reports-22k-transactions-per-second/

We need more than 25,000 transition per second in the real world.
Companies like MasterCard and Visa have this kind of rates and they are also upgrading their systems to more higher dimension and may achieve double rates than this. Have you ever seen your transaction page getting stuck at one place? Just imagine even when they have 25K TPS then also we get such times when page might stuck fraction of seconds longer than usual! So we need at least 25K (minimum) TPS speed to cop up with the real world deals.

Solana currently in private presale mode (TGE is Jan 2019) have a test net of 400,000TPS.
We don't need that 1Million TPS or so, we just have to overcome the speed of Visa/Mastercard transaction which is around 10,000TPS and we are good to go. In the end, security is the most important.

VISA has 24 000 TPS and it's larely enough , those new ico do that just to create hype and if they can release that amount on a test envirenment , they will never reach that in a working platform like ethereum with all the Dapps on it , and i think it's better to stay with ethereum cause vitalik will improve it don't worry , sharding implementation soon

Lightning network will solve the limit we have on transactions per second on bitcoin and with the security of blockchain. Rest of them will never be as safe and secure as bitcoin, There are many vulnerabilities with sh*tcoins you mentioned Cheesy They will never work as expected, People don't want to have a large scale sh*tcoin with %30/80 premined. More power to LN it needs more time and definitely more improvement.
Plasma protocol on the Etherium will significantly increase the speed of transactions.
As well as the wealth of Vitalik and his team Cheesy
cause vitalik will improve it don't worry
Don't worry cause Vitalik will leave more backdoors to quietly hack the network and steal millions of dollars without getting caught ever Cheesy

TPS on its own is overrated.
for example you can fork bitcoin right now and change a bunch of simple attributes to have 10 million TPS but as long as your chain is not used you only 0.001 TPS because that is the reality. and that is important.
the real question is whether your coin is used that much and is it surviving under that load and not be broken. like ETH which promised high TPS but broke under 1/10 of that load.
and also the real question is whether it is still decentralized with a high TPS or did you centralize it?

right now TPS is not a big problem. But...who can know how much blockchain will spread in the future? Maybe in 10 years we really need 100000 TPS..

I think if it's a good project, it needs to reach 3000TPS per second.
Because this is the key to supporting a big game.

Definetly more than VISA. Visa has around 1700 and is capable to 50000( according to VISA devs), at this moment no cryptocurrencies have that much. It is important to have more tx/s than fiat payment method, not even in terms of real usage of tx's but in term of psychology, "simple" people won't chose a slower method of payment.

But I think we need more transactions per seconds in projects like Gaming and Storage.
What if you have a Decentralized game for the whole world. That's a lot of people making use of the blockchain.

These values will be greatly increased after the introduction of Bitcoin Lightning Network, and in Ethereum Casper. The speed of transactions is not the main problem now.

I think if you want to take on enough dapps, you need as much as the TPS of EOS.
However, at present, whether EOS can reach this TPS is still a problem.
