Can I somehow make a transaction that denies me access to some BTC for a specified amount of blocks? Essentially I want to force myself to hold for some time.

Thanks! Interesting reading, but I realize it may still be slightly over my head if one needs to make manual transactions and stuff. Is there any client around that has this implemented?

You are welcome.
I believe you can only do it with raw tx at this moment.
