Hi All,

I'm new in this forum. I have a 6 RX580 rig with 3 PSU 750 Gold. I had to move the miner to another room some days ago and now only 2 PSU are running. If i power up the rig all of my 6 graphics cards are turning on and the hashrate is around 159 but the fan from the second PSU is not spinning. After some time my last 2 graphics cards are shutting down without any reason at all. I don't think it's a PSU problem as the last 2 cards are turning on...

I'm using this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/24-Pin-20-4Pin-Triple-PSU-ATX-Power-Supply-Adapter-Cable-18AWG-Wire-For-Mining-L059/32830227023.html? as the adapter.

Any idea what could be the problem? Did somebody encounter the same problem before?

Thanks,
Marius

Thanks for the reply. The miner was on for 4 months before moving to the other room. Not a single problem in this time. So i doubt it's overheating... The PSU it's not smelling like it's burned.

Can you test another PSU to make sure its not the issue? I had the same problem and it was my PSU dying, just rmaed.

I'll switch the connection with the third PSU just to be sure. Thanks

Have you tried to test that 2nd PSU? Use single test/standard PSUs test, unplug the 2nd PSU, then use jumper technique. Connect the pins number 16 (green) to any of the black pins (3,5,7,..15,17 and so on) using paperclips or wire. See the fan, is it spinning or not.

Like people here have already said try to test the non-functioning PSU alone on the rig with a (or some) GPU(s) plugged in. See if the rig powers on and if it does then give it a little stress test with mining (also watch the wattage it pulls from the wall, use Kill a watt for that.) If it pulls less than 750w and shuts down then yes, your PSU is faulty.

6 Rx 580 can do well with even 2 x 750 gold PSU if they are good brand like CoolerMaster, Thermaltake, Corsair etc. One thing I would advise you to check if the green and red cable are connected together in series so when the first PSU is turn on, automatically the 2 others are turn on by itself.

During the movement of the rig to another room, probably you may have unintentionally move and broke this connection.

What PSU is it exactly?

There are some PSUs where the fan doesn't run full time. They do it for efficiency reasons.

If this is a really old PSU then its very very common for the main fan to die, this is quite common in mining rigs since the PSU is usually hotter and its the heat that kills the fans faster.

The fans are generally standard 14" fans you can buy at any computer store. Just so replace it and you might have to splice the connector wire pins.

Hi All,

Thanks a lot for the advices. Just to make it more clear:
PSU1 is the main PSU connected to the motherboard which has connected GPU1 and GPU2
PSU2 is the one with the problem which has connected GPU5 and GPU6
PSU3 has connected GPU3 and GPU4

Yesterday i switched the connection between PSU2 and PSU3 just to check if it is a cable problem but the fan still won't spin on PSU2. PSU3 is working as intended.

All i can tell at the moment is that the PSU is powering up the cards but after some time it's probably overheating and shuts down completely.

I'll try the paperclip test today.

That's better.
As you said, the 2nd PSU becoming overheated after some time, that because the fan isn't spinning to cooled the temps.

Your PSU has Intelligent auto-thermal fan control (as shown on the link that you provide) maybe you need to pay attention to this, how to setting up the fan manually.

That was my thought at some point, that the auto-thermal fan control is keeping the fan from not spinning. Is there any possibility to set the fan manually? As far as I know, you can't really influence the PSU in any way, but again, I'm opened to any suggestions.

I'm using Corsair-link to control all of the systems fans including PSUs fan, My PSU was Corsair RM1000i. I'm not sure with your PSU.

I think something happens with the thermal sensor on your PSU, that's why its fan isn't spinning.

If there is a problem with the power supply temperature sensor, the fan can be connected from the power supply to 12 volts directly from the other power supply. If the power supply is not under warranty, it can be disassembled and checked.
