London School of Economics Launches “Cryptocurrency Investment and Disruption” Course

By: Avi Mizrahi

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) has launched a new online certificate course titled “Cryptocurrency Investment and Disruption” headed by Dr Carsten Sørensen, Associate Professor of Information Systems and Innovation. LSE has thus joined the growing list of top notch institutions offering crypto classes such as Cambridge, NYU, Northwestern, Stanford, Wharton and Georgetown, as well as others.

The new LSE crypto educational option seems to be quite accessible as there are no prerequisites for the course and its cost is also not unreasonable at just £1,800. It starts on 14 August 2018, and will take six weeks to complete (excluding orientation) with an estimated commitment of about seven to ten hours per week. This course is also certified by the United Kingdom CPD Certification Service, if that is relevant for you.

Providing crypto training by such a reputable educational institution is really nice. This shows us that Crypto and blockchain technology has evolved and grown. So no one can be indifferent to these technologies anymore.

Would accomplishing this course allow you to have some expertise over Cryptocurrency Investments? Is it going to be applicable in business or financial sectors? Most people nowadays consider first before getting a course whether it may be applied in real life or if its good for getting a job. Not everyone has the luxury to simply take a course out of pure interest. What are the job opportunities for getting this course?

In my country, fintech startup companies has been starting to rise and there's no specific area of study required for you to work at such companies but coming from IT would give you an edge. Perhaps such course would aid to areas like these since these businesses revolve around the said course.

I guess the Course title is self-explanatory, isn't it? And, you would assume that if they're telling the truth, then the answer is "yes" to all your questions (check out the programme details, why don't you?).

Also, everyone has the luxury to take courses out of pure interest. Last I checked, learning was open to anyone who has internet. You don't have to pay for this particular LSE course.

If you think education is only for job opportunities, then maybe you misunderstand the point of learning.

I agree, so many fintech start ups coming up and very few of them have actual blockchain understanding. Have you seen some of the interviews and AMAs with some of these CEOs? Some can be shockingly inept. Perhaps that is part of the problem? That they actually only have some IT understanding but no actual programming or economic understanding (like this LSE course supposedly gives)?

I'm always intrigued by stuff like this. How do they know how valid their info is?

I looked up the teacher and there is literally not one mention of crypto from him anywhere on the internet. I'm sure the LSE has certain standards but I wonder whether a few months sifting through all the free resources out there would end you up better qualified to teach.

Oh wow I really thought that they would offer this online course for free since it is just an optional and not even a elective course needed by the student. 1,800£ for me is not reasonable when you will only be getying a certificate after the course ends. They should just have offered this for free if they really want to get their students exposed on this kind of world they must have at least give them a taste on this kind of investment opporunity. Also I won't be paying for something that can be self-thought or be seen easily online.

This is very encouraging, it is with courses such as these that drives mass adoption of crypto-currencies.It also presents cryptos in positive light, not just the negative links with terrorism and darkweb

The duration of the course is sixty hours and the price is around £1,800. The course is meant to provide the information, knowledge, and frameworks of blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies. After completing this session you can be a certified Crypto academic and a master.

I don't know about being a "master", but the course's intention is laudable. I think there is a lot that can be taught about blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Perhaps the course will take on the economics aspect of the industry. That's well enough for me. There would be a smaller number of ignorance and larger number of future investors who would do their due diligence and know what to look out for in this market.

Ponder in moderation.
