Be prepared for BTC to approach single digits and possibly even fractions of a penny before this is over.  They stand the theoretical probability to rebound once an agreement or framework is reached but this story is definitely over for a while.  Be aware of what you are dealing with - for a period of time you may feel a BTC is worth $1000 but the market may only be giving you 1 penny. Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

Except that the infrastructure around the world is currently going gangbusters with hundreds of new startups, international conferences drawing tens of thousands, venture capital, wall street investments, ETFs, creation of BitLicenses in NY purely for the purpose of fostering innovation in Bitcoin, and adoption increasing every day.  Overstock has almost reached $1 million Bitcoin sales in their first month, and they've announced they will be holding coins instead of immediately cashing in.  They plan to start paying vendors and salaries in Bitcoin soon.

Argentina is flocking to it in droves.  Cyprus.  etc...

When that starts to fall apart, Bitcoin will fall apart.

The trading market / exchanges have absolutely nothing to do with what Bitcoin is doing around the world.   BTC could go to $1.00 tomorrow and it wouldn't amount to a hill of beans for its future success.

Its important to know whats going on outside of the tiny world of "trading on exchanges".

So, you're only around since December? Maybe lurking since October/November? No offense, seriously, but Bitcoin will pull through. Things are rough now, sure! But this is far from the apocalypse.

i was the biggest proponent of btc out there, mentioning and defending it on my own personal site.....but things have changed now.

all most of us have are the exchanges and right now i'm locked out of Coinbase with no responses to my emails while i watch this thing sink like the Titanic.

mtgox using some home made software, or what ever their problem is?   stronger exchanges need to be developed.   for those that got in early at $10 a coin, you're still doing great, but some of us are losing a bundle.    why would btc be worth more than an ounce of gold at this stage in December?

digitals will always be around, and 3rd world countries need this low cost payment method, but somebody like google or apple needs to come up with a coin and a much stronger system.   i'm going to wait for that.

Bipolar disorder.

Decided to play day trader today. Sold some..

His finger is now on the buy button.. wants a few extra dollars so when he buys back he makes a bigger profit, I'm sure this is the genesis of about 95% of the FUD catastrophe posts made here.
Thankfully this has little potential of working.  and over time they'll chase more and more.. Wink

So, when you were out being the biggest proponent of btc, did you fail to understand the idea of a decentralized currency? Did you fail to understand that it gave you the power to control your own storage of value, with no middle-man?

I guess not, because you went out and put all your coins on another centralized website on the internet (which we all know is big and bad) and trusted them to hold them for you and have them ready for you when you asked for them just like a bank.... read about Cypress lately? Can you go in to Coinbase/MtGox and speak to someone in person about your funds they are holding? I think not.

You guys are crazy trusting your coins with other people you don't even know and have no chance of ever seeing in-person if anything goes wrong, just because they look big doesn't mean you can trust them. Bitcoin is about creating trust on an untrusted network not about trusting everyone blindly with all your value...

Please don't go being a proponent of bitcoin to other people without first learning a little about paper wallets and cold storage to be able to inform them properly about the necessary security or you are only setting up more people to be disappointed who of course will blame bitcoin for their uneducated mistakes...

Decentralize EVERYTHING!

Patience....

The exchanges are holding coins to make sure that their customer's coins aren't compromised.  The core dev team is working on resolving the issue as well.  Similar things have happened before and this too will be fixed and the protocol will become stronger for it.  I panic-sold some coins in May 2013.  Please don't make the same mistake I did.  If you look at the value of BTC even today vs what they were worth a year ago, the growth is massive.  If you bought in above current levels and if you can wait it out, do.

i have two other wallets but i wanted to spread things around with coinbase, because you never know.    i've explained on my site quite thoroughly since we're not in the USA about btc and security as well as cold storage.   only 2 people have bought on my site and they bought very little, others are just too skeptical.

my own personal problems are not part of the larger systemic problems within btc.   mtgox has hurt people more than i have, glad they wouldn't accept my wire last year.
