So I just realised I haven't actually updated my Multibit client on my PC in a while, whats the correct way to do this, can I just over-write the existing installation with the new installer, or should I uninstall the old one first?

Also will installing new version kill my existing wallet in it and would have to be re-instated via backup keys?

Probably best I wait till this whole TX-ID thing is sorted before updating I guess...

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

You can install the new version using the installer instructions and it will pick up your old wallets ok.

Then, if you are happy with the upgrade, you can install the old version using the uninstaller.
