it's right, such a thing shouldn't take a petition in my view, anyway this link would be useful too if one still needs to get a more precise idea about his professionality:  Grin

the whole foundation should be abandoned all together.

there is no real leadership there.

nothing but crooks and clowns.

when i first checked out the foundation, all i seen was 'pay us this' and 'pay us that'
a bit like the NUJ, pay them money and they will continue to do fuck all for you.

https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/the-bitcoin-foundation-to-remove-mark-karpeles-from-their-board

although it may seem obvious to us, I think you should consider including the actual reasons, point by point, the action

in this way each point could be discussed

I didn't post the petition.

I did sign it however as I can think of a couple of reasons this guy has proven himself unworthy to guide the ship.

That's me however, so whether or not anyone else thinks so, and decides to sign it, or not, is totally up to them, based on their own reasons for doing so.

What if it turns out that he's trying to guide his really big ship around a really mean iceberg?  One that apparently BTC-e now has laid eyes too?

I agree that the cryptocurrency industry needs self-regulation, and times like these and efforts like this really highlight that necessity but I also think the arguments need to be solid, so much so that meaningful change actually occurs.

I suppose one could make that argument, but in order to do so, they have to make it.  If you think that Karpelis is a good guy in all of this, lay out the reasons why.

But I'll play.

Based on what I've seen, this transaction malleability is not a new issue, it wasn't just discovered by Karpelis or BTC-e

In his own words they implemented their own protocol.  He then seemingly turned around and threw his own Golden Goose under the bus to try to save face for himself when that was exploited.  That makes him, in my view:

1.  An incompetent manager for putting in place this protocol in the first place.
2.  An unprofessional, immature individual, clearly not up to the task ahead, which demands better.
3.  Pretty much an idiot as he's betrayed the very thing and community that has made him rich - and shot himself in the ass at the same time.  That takes a special kind of genius, as far as I'm concerned.

I think the market will sort this out, and that it has begun to do so.  Gox screwed up and they're going down in flames.  The others to follow will know better.  Others in the US have announced they are funding an exchange and that it is coming, so Gox and the others need to step up their game if they're going to survive.

See Chamath's tweet on Feb 10 to that effect:
https://twitter.com/chamath

Big Dogs are coming to town.  This shit will get cleaned up.

I do think that Karpelis was not up to the task, that his business grew beyond his abilities, resulting in an implosion that he handled poorly, and that he has earned himself a bus ticket out of town due more to his actions in the wake of this than anything else, however, YMMV of course.

I, for one, will never do any sort of business with Mr. Karpeles again. The immeasurable harm that he's done to Bitcoin based on his own gross incompetence and misunderstanding is unacceptable. As far as I'm concerned, he should be completely exiled from the Bitcoin community.

Why do we even need a foundation?

the foundation has many reasons for existing and many reason to exist, chief amoung 'em are:

1) to provide cryptocurrency industry leadership
2) to protect the integrity of the Bitcoin brand
3) to protect the security of bitcoin system of operation
4) to encourage worldwide adoption of BTC
5) to encourage development of ancillary support systems

I'm confident that the foundation has an about us page that would tell you their mission from their perspective.

BTC is only 5 years old, for each person on the board btc has literally changed their lives magnificently.  They are all leaders in their own right, so I can image its difficult to get things done beyond back-slapping bravado.   Nevertheless, without the foundation (the org) there is no foundation (the structure).

Replace them if you will or just make another one, you see their mistakes start a new and improved foundation, so what that it won't be the original it should be the better.

i've crossed out the points, in my opinion, which are not needed, or not working.

I think he realises this. It is doubtful he will release anyone's funds and perhaps less doubtful he will buy up the coins himself when they crash through the floor on gox.

As I saw from a recent interview from a Londoner with stuck coins, he couldn't care less and seems to be deferring any talks with any unhappy customers, indicating a high possibility of a runner once the media attention dies down. Until then, he's content to sit in his cstle and ride it out. Undecided
