Finally decided to pickup an ASIC Mining Rig after lots of lurking and research. I have a nice cool place for it with free electricity, but I'm new to ASIC Mining and was wondering if you guys have any tips on mining, tweaking or pools? I'm guessing 200GH is not fast enough to do solo mining for BTC, but I was thinking P2Pool or BTCGuild? Any tips or anything at all is greatly appreciated.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

You're right 200 GH/s isn't quite enough for solo mining.

get a refund

Why would I get a refund? I believe in Bitcoin for the longterm not the short term. Sure as it is now, it might take a while to make the profit back (think around 6 months?) but why would you say 200gh isn't worth it? If I mined with a Pool I'm going to make some BTC and I'm not paying for electricity so that factors in... Should I just drop 9k and buy a 3TH rig instead? Figured a 200gh rig would be a good start... I'm considering buying more depending on how this goes.

As an average user just trying to get some general feedback, I do appreciate your comment but again not sure why you would say to get a refund. 200gh seems pretty decent for starters and if it will be on 24/7 free of charge..What would you recommend instead? Buy a Radeon Rig and mine Doge?

I would pick a pool.  I use BTCGuild as it is great and the owner is on here alot and very helpful.
As for tweaks check the settings and see what increases are already in place to choose from.  My Avalon Gen 1 run great on the top setting getting around 76gh/s steady.
Make sure your miner is somewhere where it is nice a cool.  That way what ever clock rate you run it at will have the chance at peak performance.

Mining is fun.
I am not looking for an ROI on my gear.  I bought it all bit by bit used and I save some of the BTC I make for the future and spend the rest which is a nice balance.
Enjoy it as it is fun.

Tips:
- Pick 3 pools you would like to support and setup the miner and make sure it connects to all 3 for a little bit
- Have CGMiner set to failover to the other 2 pools should #1 go down
- Set auto-withdrawals to a reasonable number like 0.25BTC
- Send to a wallet that you have the keys printed out on paper
- Keep this wallet offline as much as possible
- Read the thread posted above and then forget about the miner (unless you like tweaking)

We're in a similar situation with hardware.  I, too, am in it for the long haul.

I know you'd hate reading through hundreds of threads (been there) so here's a bit of a cheat sheet for the "Cgminer Configuration" tab when the noise becomes an issue for ya.

I got mine to quiet down some 'cuz the wifey was complaining about the howling.

DISCLAIMER: (heh-heh   Wink)  Try at your own risk.

-----------------------------------------------------

Find your "Cgminer Configuration" tab under the "STATUS" tab & then find the following fields near the bottom of this page:

"Target Temperature":    50

"Overheat Cut Off Temperature":     70

"MORE OPTIONS(Default: -quiet)":     --quiet

or

"MORE OPTIONS(Default: -quiet)":     --avalon-fan 80

or

"MORE OPTIONS(Default: -quiet)":     --avalon-fan 20

The last three "MORE OPTIONS" lines vary between AVALON miners since they're not all created equal.

Mine is hanging at the edge of my window for cooling purposes (in a high rise building) & isn't any louder than my regular desktop fan for most of the day.

PS:
Don't forget to go to the Avalon Wiki page & select the proper one you have for the correct info.
Good luck & happy mining.

Regards,

Suzukii

(Live long & ...keep mining)

Hardware:
Avalon 200Gh/s 55nm | Raspberry Pi model B | Minepeon 0.2.4.3 (...was 0.2.5-pr2) | BFGMiner 3.10.0 | 28x Manhattan USB 2.0/3.0 powered Hub | 5x ASIC Block Erupter @333 MH/s | 3x BFL Jalapeño's Total ~232.7 GH/s
