Considering the large price difference between these two, can't you just buy a btc at mtgox and transfer to/sell it at coinbase or anywhere else that has a similar price? Is there something i'm missing? (sorry im kinda new to the whole thing).

ah...BUT if you buy low now, by the time you get your coints they will be worth so much more! Long distance trading FTW!

Seriously though, avoid MTgox like it's the plague.

If you buy at Gox, there's a decent chance you'll never see your USD or BTC again.
