I am no longer burdened by an overly complex interface. 

Now, I can powerfully manipulate the site whereas before I feel very weak and limited by the complexity.

If I want to submit an article, what formatting options do I have?

Is it just plain html? I'm cool with that. bold/italic, 2 header sizes and 'display: block' images.

Markdown is the formatting of choice. Site is very simple because there was no time for evolution, but I'll try to keep it fast.
