Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

The Winklevoss twins are only concentrating on Bitcoin because, according to a recent interview, they feel that BTC has the lead and this lead is significant enough to be insurmountable due to the lack of clear significant advantage of the other cryptocurrencies. Also, BTC is accepted by many merchants such as Overstock and TigerDirect so you can actually spend it, which is a requirement for money, it has to be spendable.

They want to start a BTC ETF and all ETFs that I know of are traded as futures and options, so I assume that their ETF will be traded that way, too, when and if they get government approval.

The Winklevoss twins are still working on that one. Coming soon....

thanks

do you know how they would be making their selection of CC or are they just focusing on BTC?

I'm surprised noone gave you a real answer.

https://icbit.se/ ICBit offer options of various kinds, on BTC price, network difficulty and possibly others.
https://www.predictious.com/ Predictious offers prediction markets, some of which allow bets on BTC price, which is essentially a type of option.
Mpex also offers options but there is a massive sign-up fee to use it. There is a pass-thru market somewhere but I forget its name.

Unlevereged financial instruments acting as a store of value that fluctuate 50% within 10 minutes is perfectly acceptable. I think it should be offered in IRA form to soon to be retirees.

I really like that second one.  Have you any experience with either of those sites?
