Hey guys, i am pretty new to this whole bitcoin thing, after being scammed out of some money buy the site minershare.net, i have decided not to be discouraged and leave the bitcoin world, but instead abandon my dreams of mining and move on to buy and sell. I have been following the price of btc on coinbase, bitstamp, btc-e, and of course gox, for a while now but i want your guys opinion on which exchange i should put my money in. My thoughts have been leaning towards btc-e, but thats mostly because of that recent price drop to $102. So let me know where you guys have been trading, and let me know where a rookie like myself should start.

I've never traded there, but Stamp seems to be the most legit to me...They had a major issue and fixed it very quickly in comparison to any other exchanges, which shows their customer service is legit. If you want to go higher risk, go Gox and get cheaper BTC but there are rumors they are becoming solvent. BTC-E hasn't had a problem yet and that's where I trade. I personally haven't had any issues but I've read their customer support is TERRIBAD. I read a few threads this morning myself and started wondering if I should switch to Stamp, heh.

Now I think I'll consider Kraken, I forgot about that one. Have they ever had any issues with anything? I thought I heard a few months ago they had issues or something.

No major ones that I am aware of. They will also add GBP as a new currency in the very near future, so the volume over there will only increase

Lots of people rate Kraken. It does have painfully thin volume though. Hopefully it'll pick up soon.

Welcome, The drop in price on BTC-e, was most likely an error from a whale, was their when it happen, its was fun. I personally use BTC-e, never had a problem depositing or withdrawing. Look me at the trollbox. I also use Coinbase to withdraw FIAT, that's the only reason I use them.

A great thing about Kraken is that the verification process is quick, took me less than 24 hours. One question though, why does volume matter? Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question, bit of teenage noobie

With more volume, you are more likely to buy / sell bitcoins at a price that is more appealing to you. Orders will get fulfilled faster.

You will typically pay something in the order of 0.3% per trade which isn't that high if you ask me.

BTC-e charges 0.02% per transaction, which is very low.

Try CoinMKT - we trade 9 coins, verification takes less than 2 minutes, and right now trading is free to welcome all of the former Mt.Gox traders. We also pay market makers a rebate for providing liquidity, so you can make money from trading as opposed to being charged a commission if you're making markets. https://coinmkt.com

I use several exchanges for bitcoin to altcoin transactions. Vicurex, Bter, coinedup, and coinex have been ok for me.
For when I want to buy or sell coins for fiat VaultofSatoshi(Canadian) is the ticket. They handle bitcoin and several altcoins. Very secure and registered with Fintrac(Canada's financial intelligence unit). Great place to sell coin as the prices are higher. Only complaint is the low volume. Sometimes trading is very quiet. Buying coin with fiat is pricey.

Although Kraken is really coming popular he is late to join the game. I think that BTC-e now is going to be the largest

But Kraken has the easiest verification. Others need a ton of documents.
