Wifey came home tonight and texted, said our apartment is almost 90 degrees (f) and smells like plastic. I'm out on my 16 hour day right now... We got a freakish warm day, 60 outside in Feb is not normal. Problem is, our apartment building has a chiller system, and we don't have control over it. In the spring every year we have 5 weeks where half the days are warm but they still don't change the heat over to air conditioning. If they do it too early all the old folks bitch about it. It got so bad last year that I had to buy a portable AC unit, just to make it through those few weeks of discomfort, and I wasn't even mining then! So now it's gonna start getting warm out, what the hell am I gonna do?

You are going to move your equipment or watch it fry through your watering eyes that's what!

Mining! Ahhh,

I don't have a plan as of yet but I'll need to figure something out because I have 5 rigs heating up a 1500sq ft office with the windows open, AC on and its winter.

Probably have to invest in a substantial portable air con unit pretty soon depends how much power you're running.

Gets to a certain point where you almost have to match cooling KW's with mining KW's

Had a feeling I'm not the only one who will have this problem... Even when my building turns the AC on it's not all that cold, I mean if we had a normal place with a normal thermostat we could just set it. I have a decent portable AC but it just makes the space "tolerable". Have a bad feeling about the summer.

Don't most of these ASICs shut down when they hit a certain temp? I mean, I don't want to push it, but also want to know if they have any safety features built in.

In the firmware they must almost certainly have a shut down temp but consistently running at very high temperatures isn't good for them anyway.

We're in London in the UK and we're having to run air con in our server room pretty much 24/7 !

I've got a similar one, it's good but I'm not sure if it will be enough (for my space, of course).

Don't quite understand what 12000 BTU's is though... sounds impressive but is 1 btu like the heat a fly generates ?

I only know air con rated in KW's

I'll be switching over to water cooled. Smiley

It will be a steep price upfront, but the piece of mind will pay 10-fold.

Crap, i just realized you all are referring to ASIC units (SHA 256).  I use GPU's, so i'll be water cooling mine this summer.

I'd love to accumulate enough BTC to purchase a legit ASIC miner, but that's a little down the road for me i'm afraid. Everything i purchase is from profits i make when i mine/rent out. Wink

Yeah, I mean I have enough gear that I don't want to imagine having to voluntarily turn it off. I mean, maybe it's not a lot compared to people on these forums, but it's way more gear than I ever expected to acquire!
