I am somewhat of a newbiw to cryptocurrency, but I am very intrigued by it.
At the moment I am working on transfering my wallet to a USB for security reasons.
Any ideas on the best way to go about this process?

Just transfer the .dat file containing the private key and you're good to go but make sure to back up the file in case of stolen or lost usb.

Yup, the only important file is your wallet file (wallet.dat in bitcoin-qt, default_wallet in Electrum, etc).

What do you mean by that? You can easily backup your wallet to a USB drive, but I suspect that is not what you mean by "transferring my wallet" and "taking wallet offline". You can run bitcoin-qt from a USB drive using the command line option "-datadir=<dir>"

Just make sure your wallet is encrypted with a passphrase.
You can now store you wallet safely on any usb if they are unable to guess / bruteforce the passphrase.
