Hi all,

I've written a simple windows gadget (desktop widget) to monitor the BTC/USD exchange rate at Mt. Gox. It looks like this:

It displays the current exchange rate statistics, and will glow (in a non-intrusive way!) when the rate goes up or down, or when the volume increases.

Anyways, I'm selling it for 0.10BTC. You can purchase it at http://www.bitcoinservice.co.uk/files/859. For those concerned about security, note that a .gadget file is simply a zip archive, and everything is in clear (the bulk of the gadget is specialized javascript); so you can audit it before you install it.

Any remarks or suggestions welcome!

PS: for those who prefer linux, just a reminder that I've made a similar widget that you can get for free: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Bitcoin+Rate?content=138572

PPS: is there a place on the wiki for software like this?

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Great. I must say, I was a bit nervous, especially after the nightmare that developing that Gadget was. You'd think Microsoft would have provided a nice a well-documented API to motivate developers to write stuff for their new OS; well, no :-)

What operating systems are supported here?  My Vista laptop died unexpectedly, so for the near future I'm limited to my WinXP desktop.  I'm guessing this is Vista/7+ right?

Yes, although I didn't test on Vista. Should work though. Feedback welcome!

BTW, I want to lower the price for the gadget, but bitcoinservice.co.uk doesn't allow fractional amounts of bitcoins. Does anyone have a better solution to distribute my gadget?

Ok, at a first glance, it seems that MtGox have changed their API. I'll try to upload a new version this week-end.

I bought your gadget as well, and would like it updated for the new Mt Gox API.  Please let us know when it's finished!  Other than that little snafu, I really like it!

I've uploaded a new version that is compatible with the new MtGox API:

http://www.bitcoinservice.co.uk/files/859

The price is now 0.15BTC. Get it while it's hot!

For people who already have bought the gadget and would like a free upgrade, PM me a hash of the old file and your email, and I'll send you the new version.

Awesome! I just bought it, and it works well.

The one thing is, I didn't like the design, so I made my own. =]
