Bitcoin is not paypal.

You cannot put = between BTC and PayPal.
this is not the same and BTC will be never a PayPal.

I think.

I don't expect anything smart about Bitcoin from the average Joe.

This really should be "Are Bitcoin Exchanges like PayPal." But even that would be a stretch.

The only similarity I found was how lazy PayPal can be at times and how lazy Mt. Gox can be at times.

Yay!!!

Did anyone actually read the article?  Do you understand how they aren't in any way saying Bitcoin is like Paypal in operation?  Its saying its the New Thing (tm) and it may face fraud problems like Paypal did, will it learn to cope.  It barely even mentions Bitcoin, really focusing on the trouble Paypal had.

I did, that's why I likened the laziness of both Mt. Gox and PayPal. When PayPal had the phishing issues, they had some forewarning about the security risks that could impact withdrawals; likewise, Mt. Gox had forewarning about the Transaction Malleability risks that could impact withdrawals.

These issues could have been avoided if there were at some substantive security audits. Once again, it boils down to laziness.

My issue with this title is that it tries to slant Bitcoin. In reality, it's about the similarities between Bitcoin exchanges and PayPal; but really mostly about the similar types of problems between Mt. Gox and PayPal.

They don't deserve to have anything 'tech' related in their name.
